Traveller Miniatures... No, really...

Micromark in New Jersey formulates its own resins and RTV mold silicones of varying casting properties, they are an excellent company, with great customer service, and definitely have everything needed and more, and at low prices. The factors I liked most about the various products is the price and ease of use (most of the mix ratios are 1:1 or 10:1)

I have used the CR-300 resin, mostly for small 1/48 astronauts for scale markers for my various projects, as well as one off starshp components when necessary... it throws some heat, but i'll be dipped if the stuff isn't rock solid when set.

Also, If I remember correctly, Issue 415 (not sure exactly if that''s right...) of White Dwarf has an overview of the prototyping process in detail... the example given is the Falcon Grav Tank, a very complex model, with lots of detail and linear undercuts... I believe they started with a 3x finished scale prototype, then used a reduction die cutter to blast the mold masters out of steel! Incredible work, but they also got incredible resouces... that sort of stuff is NOT cheap by any means...

IIRC, the sculptor's name is Judson McDaniel. I don't have any contact info for him, unfortunately.
