Traveller Online

So what is the best way to run Traveller (T20 or another version) these days online? Is there a 4th edition of GRIP? Does Fantasy Ground have what it takes? Is Klooge the best or something else?

I think Fantasy Ground was made for the d20 system, so T20 'should' work very close. I've heard lots of good things about it.

tools

what about workload with the various tools to get a traveller campaign moving forward? Has anyone studied this that is doing a online campaign?

open RPG is good, free. I don't mind the typing.

If someone asked me, what would you use to run traveller online, if no face to face players were in your area?

Easily OpenRPG.

Grip had too many problems. To me, a rip-off for the price i paid, plus no support, which I didn't find out was the case until I got here, which is how i found this board some years ago, looking for fixes for GriP Traveller.

Still no fix in the pipe. Meh.

I'll run something via open.

I briefly dabbled with MapTool (and TokenTool) from rptools.net, used with Skype. It showed promise ... the electronic AHL deckplans floating round the net integrated in well. But my players just weren't interested in gaming online.

online gaming

As much as I like the COTI site GRIP needs support. That is hard to do when Traveller versions fight each other for market share. I'd like to see a more revised app with non-D&D qualities.

We're your players interested in continuing games online... say once a month face-to-face and a couple times online? I guess its perspective. I found it hard to meet more than one every month.

I think for some its a question of why they game: because the want to game or because they like the social interaction. And be aware there is a subtly different style to play when using online tools which after getting used to won't be to everyone's taste..

I've recently had a group disintegrate on me after scheduling issues meant that even once a month was a struggle. The group had become unviable but no one would admit it for a long time. Everyone has other commitments but one evening every couple of weeks shouldn't be a great imposition. If its longer than that: take it as a warning sign. Try to anaylse where the scheduling problem lies in a detached manor and consider splitting your group and recruiting new members to fill in the gaps.

The game

Excellent thought... and eventually I'll ref again. I live in the wrong county for making it happen. Hence, my thoughts of going online.
