I almost chucked this whole post...
...I was wondering about the vehicles, and my book doesn't list volumes for most of them? Odd no? Or are they hiding somewhere?
Anyway, fudge is yummy so...
Typical Vehicle Loadout:
-------
5ton Lifeboat/Close Observation Craft - (built on the Air/Raft design) - TL 11
This small stealth coated fully enclosed vehicle is capable of limited 4G maneuver in vacuum (1 day maximum*) but is typically employed in a simple planetary role at speeds not exceeding 400kph in atmosphere to maintain a low signature (3 days maximum*).
* before recharging or refueling
It normally allows seating for up to 6 (includes the 2 control seats) and the 4 rear seats can be converted to 2 bunks for sleeping. In addition there is room for about 1/2ton of cargo or supplies. With the rear seats folded away entirely 1ton of cargo space is gained. Access is direct via sliding doors on the sides or the small cargo area can be used as an airlock.
The vehicle includes an autopilot and 4.5 person days extended life support. Compact advanced electronics and computers allow it to perform with much the same capabilities as the ship's electronics but at a much reduced range.
No weapons are typically mounted.
Note the vehicle bay storage listed (5tons) allows some cramped access around and above the vehicle to accommodate loading and basic maintenance.
Cost is Cr725,500. Agility 0, Armor 6, Hull 2, Structure 2
-------
1.5ton Open Grav Sled - (built on the Grav Floater design) - TL 11
This ungainly open vehicle is really nothing more than a simple flat cargo sled with some foldaway seats built in. Barely capable of lifting it's rated 1.5tons of cargo capacity it is typically operated by hand held remote at speeds well below it's maximum of 40kph (with an operational duration of 1 day*).
* before recharging or refueling
In it's adapted configuration it can seat 6, cramped and exposed on all sides except below, without even a windscreen. Each seat folded away allows 1/4ton of cargo to be carried. The seats include a full harness to keep riders from falling off. Operation is by the same remote control normally used, by one of the riders. Several tie-down points cover the surface to insure cargo does not shift or fall off.
The vehicle (and calling it that is generous) is truly a no frills ride but does allow wide open viewing of the passing scenery making it handy for scouting.
No weapons are typically mounted.
Note in the bay this vehicle takes up very little space with the seats folded down (area of 1.5tons) and can be carried with up to 1.5tons of cargo on it in that space.
Cost is Cr800. Agility -2, Armor 0, Hull 0, Structure 1
-------
1ton Open Grav Bike - (built on the Grav Bike design) - TL 11
...err, I swear I saw Grav Bikes in Mongoose Traveller earlier?! Hmm, either I lost them or imagined it or was looking at something else. Oh well
...
-------
1ton Open Grav Bike - (built on the Grav Belt design) - TL 11
Typically carrying two of these open vehicles for fast recon the model described is standard for rugged military versions of the basic idea. Capable of speeds of up to 400kph with a single rider (though at some risk due to the limited sensor and control capability) or a marginally more reasonable 200kph with a second rider or up to 100kg of gear (with an operational duration of 1 day*) Grav Bikes take a certain mindset to ride at their limits. Most riders will stick to a safer 100kph top speed (and double the operational duration).
* before recharging or refueling
Primarily designed for a single operator the seat can accommodate one passenger. A forward fairing and windscreen provides some protection and houses the bike's basic electronics (short range radar and lidar), displays, and lighting as well as the autopilot module. The whole is treated with a marginally effective stealth coating (-1 to sensors) but the rider(s) have to be wearing stealth armor for any effect and no cargo can be carried.
No weapons are typically mounted.
Note that while each Grav Bike requires 1ton to carry they are actually only about half that. Properly crated for shipping they can be stacked 2 high in the same space (area of 1ton) as 1 ready to ride.
Cost is Cr40,000. Agility +1, Armor 0, Hull 0, Structure 1
