whoops, my mistake, sorry. sure, backing up is no problem, and now 3 turns at (xd,yd)(-1,0).

</pre>
looks like graf spee is done here, there's no way it can evade the ajax now.

2 more turns on the same course, please.

I am afraid you are right, tho I hate to give up

I am within the "no fire" zone, right?

I thought I saw the beginning of a turn kind of inside Ajax's arc in the making Billy
Not sure it'll work but...

If the Graf Spee cut a tight arc, aiming for somewhere around the 315deg point of the 100d line, going around Montevideo, will it gain anything while Ajax is forced to come to a stop or turn outside the 100d line and come back?

Or will Ajax be able to maintain its circuit and still catch the Graf Spee on the other side?

I could delete it, if flykiller hasn't already seen it ;)

btw, as I understand it yes, anywhere within the 100d line is a no fire/no go zone for the Ajax. You're safe, if the Imps can be trusted

I hate to do this, but I gotta go. Well, I don't really hate it - I'm going fly-fishing in New Mexico for a long weekend :D

Maybe far-trader or Oz can take command. Of course, they may not want this sit rep.

Good Luck for whomever does jump into the frying pan. I'm catching fish.
file_21.gif

two more turns then. and yes, the ajax is not supposed to fire through montevideo's 100d. and yes, I'll ignore the previous comments.

Please maintain course & accel. Now, I really have to either fold or turn it over to someone.

Far-Trader?? Oz??

Good Luck, guys. I'll check in on Sunday. :D

far-trader or the oz, or for that matter anyone, feel free to step in. I believe I see an opportunity here for graf spee to escape.

Bummer, I was hoping someone would pick this up.

Fly, if you want ot continue, I would maintain course & accel for 10 turns. Repeat 10 turns.

</pre>
it's clear that graf spee cannot escape on the left side.

Fly,

This is an example of the 'powered orbit' I was blathering about earlier.

Given the physical parameters and with a vector already established, INS Ajax can always prevent SS Graf Spee from escaping.

Have fun,
Bill

P.S. By physical parameters, I'm referring to the acceleration of both ships, their weapon ranges, and the size of the 100D limit. Change any of those and the results will change too.

(laugh) if we were using damage control rules it might happen. well, here's six more turns.

</pre>
near as I can see, the ajax will still catch graf spee.

This is an example of the 'powered orbit' I was blathering about earlier.
I'm still fairly sure graf spee can escape even with a "powered orbit". I'll look into it this weekend, or maybe during the week if I can squeeze it in, draw up the graphs showing the interecept or the escape.

Fly, go ahead and run it out, assuming you don't change your tactic. It looks like it is going to be close. I don't think I can do anything now that would make a difference.

As for checking out alternatives, and again assuming you retain the "powered orbit" tactic, try backing up to turn 27 and changing Graf Spee to the 180 course. If the end results are as close as I think, that might actually do it.
