Vilani Personality

Gatsby

SOC-12
I have info on the cultures and social types of the Darrains, Vagr, Aslan, Droyne, but don't really know what to tell the players about Vilani personality and culture.
How do they act, dress, re-act, fear, cherise, etc..? Could someone give me a brief synopsis to give my Vilani players something to sink their teeth into?

Vilani are very group-oriented, conservative, traditional, and occasionally rutheless. They prefer finding consensus based on precedent to impulse. Clothing-wise they're known for large headresses, long sleeves which cover the hands and big shoes.

(This is what I remember from DGP's Vilani and Vargr sourcebook)

Thanks, as always to the Travellers of the Lone Star...but is there any more????
I read somewhere that they are long-lived (200 years), are very inter-mingled with Solomani (due to the Rule of Man), and were initially based on the three branches of Vland Civilization (Nobles, Food preparers{due to Vland's inhospitable climate biology}, and merchants). Those branches later became Megacorporations. I imagine that Vilani society is so interpersonal due to the hostile enviroment that the Ancients dumped them into. Also, I like the idea of corporations evolving from socio-economic lines instead of continental governments (neat concept). Plus the Imperium nobility structure was generated out of expansion and a need of trading legislature.

But is there anything more to sink the players teeth into? Being, supposedly, that MOST characters created for Traveller are Vilani, I find the lack of info rather odd...

Oh, and as usual, I failed to win the auction for DGP's Vilani and Vagr, so no help from THAT quarter will be forthcoming...

I think most characters for Traveller are actually Vilani by blood but Solomani by culture. The Solomani were pre-eminent on Sylea, and the Marches were settled under the leadership of Solomani-descended nobles. Anglic is the Imperial language and the military is organized along traditional Earthling lines.

Purely cultural Vilani are probably restricted to Vland Sector itself.

I think, by design, Earthling culture and mentalies are dominant in the Third Imperium.

I guess if you want a quick and dirty tag for your players to think about Vilani, maybe "stereo-typical Japanese big-corporation" guys.
