Is this an another attempt to do traveller with another game system? That's my best take.

Sheesh, if anyone wanted to do a good new traveller version they'd grab EABA and Stuff from BTRC...

EDIT: Yes it seems yet another game system wants to jump on the traveller bandwagon. I've never played this "Spirit of the century" so how do people who know about it think it'll work with the big T?

Seems like someone's homebrew crossover campaign notes for a small RPG roup to me, at first glance.

And pretty detailed, to boot.

I didn't see the copyright disclaimer, Traveller is owned by Marc, etc, but i didn't look too closely.

Spirit of the Century is a Pulp Adventure RPG/Skirmish engine, recently released as one of the so-called "indy" games (ie. primarily as a PDF via places like RPGNow). A couple of the local stores recently got in the actual book, and it has been selling well.

I haven't looked at it myself, so I can't answer the applicability question.

Let's reinvent the wheel once more....

I had a little time to look this over, I think that this brings to the total of traveller systems to 12. Although this is a home brew I wonder if he is breaking some copyright laws.

Anyway, I think he has done a fine job of adapting Traveller to SotC, the only issue I have with this is that when I think Traveller, it has always been about being gritty and somewhat realistic. It was always kind of rules heavy and formal. It will have a very different flavour when played with SotC. A lot of Traveller's flavor comes from the gear, weapons and spaceships. Things that can be quantified. SotC really simplfies things.

Reading these rules I kept thinking of Flash Gordon, and Buck Rogers. I think these rules would do well for a game like that.

I guess it comes down to your style of play. I think this might be fun, but I prefere the crunch of T20 Traveller.

Copyright? Doesn't appear to be using Traveller's text. So no.

Trademark? Probably.

It's a very well done conversion and it retains all the grit that's often spoken about CT and so forth. Even though it uses SotC at the heart, it's been gritted up by key changes regarding how damage is handled.

IMO, SotC character chapters is a very interesting take on character enlistments.
