What YOU like about Mongoose Traveller!

Like the Chargen, the flexibilty of the sytem, the smoth joining of ship building and MgTHG. I've had a campaign running since December and I am liking it from a GM's position. Oh, a note on Chargen, one of the PC's has a wife(NPC) on board the ship and another has a 4 year old child, both due to chargen events.

Mercenary is useful, I'm fond of HG and TG. The Scout book is way cool EXCEPT for the chargen in it.:nonono: I have commented on that elsewhere. I will be doing alternate entries for those tables. The cover does bother me, not so much that its an issue though.

Sleek, one book, complete basic rules cover nearly all needs, what's not to like? Rapid corrections of eratta, awesome customer service, active and lively production, fresh material to boot. The Pocket MB rocks.

P.S. Don't know that going all small is wise, my middle aged group has a few who have problems with the small print.:D

What do i like about MGT well a few things and I will get to them in a minute. These are my opinions and if they do not agree with yours then fine I do not want arguments please.

1. I like MGT character creation it reminds me alot of CT which was my favorite version for the longest time. The life events are very good in rounding out characters, I did something close for story lines and character backgrounds.

2. The 2D6 task system makes me feel like I am playing CT, it really helps keep that good feeling. Ok it isnt perfect nothing is, I am fine with it not being perfect. I love that it does try to stay simple, which helps bring in new players new players get scared of all the different dice in games so it is simple and uses dice that everyone knows the simple plain D6.

3. The ship construction rules I like the easier to make ship rules, makes my job easier I'm lazy ok I admit it. When I got my book in the mail I had also ordered Traders and Gunboats and I loved that they showed the Far Trader varient the Fast Trader. It gives inspiration in the fact that not all ships are the same.

4. I like that all my old CT stuff has a new home to play in, with the influx of new players with MGT brings it amazes players with how good an old adventure still plays. The looks on my players face when they played the new game and ran an adventure 30 years old rocked them. It showed them what was being done before they were even born the looks on the faces of the group were priceless. The adventure was Chamix Plague BTW.

5. So far the game is being well supported by Mongoose with them adding new books and adventures all the time. It shows with them putting in this work that the game will stick around for a few years. It will not be a flash in the pan, it will stay it will be played and enjoyed by its fans.

Have you tested that in play? Last few games I've run, if armour is boosted, let alone doubled, combat becomes endless dice rolling.

After a vicious firefight vs ACR armed, AT6 (vac suit) troops, my player in combat armour had taken 3 hits overall and downed 8 with his gauss rifle, while the other player, in AT8, had taken a few bursts while he charged to melee range to kill the other 4 (by stabbing them in their open faceplates - let him do it for the chutzpah of charging 4 guys with automatic weapons and actually making it), and still, just about, survived conscious.

The rolls were not particularly extraordinary, an average mix of good and bad.

Yup, it is officially a house rule at my table. It does mean more rolling of the dice but avoids combat becoming ridiciously easy. There are enough modifiers in MGT to make the whole thing as you described, if they plan their attack well enough.

I ordered the MongT Pocket yesterday. I'm looking forward to seeing it and comparing it to the CT, MT, TNE, T4 books I have.
I like Mongoose as a company except for their incistence on chaining Conan to D20 instead of Runequest.
Mongoose Runequest is one of, if not the, best fantasy RPGs on the market, in my opinion. And, yes, I have played the others. I own every BRP game ever published with the exception of Elfquest. Mong RQ gets a LOT of bad press, but it doesn;t deserve it.
That's why I ordered the MongT. That, and I really, really want Judge Dredd!

I like that the book is fairly complete as it is with chargen and ship building etc. I was wary because runequest was sort of incomplete to me so that was a pleasant surprise. I like the flexibility and alternatives in the system like chargen either point buy or old school iron man. Ship tech too is flexible with options for hyperdrive etc. With babylon 5 rules out might make for even more options.

I'm for Conan Traveller. :D

I picked up MRQ when it came out. I've played and run RQ, RQII, CoC (original, just picked up a used copy of CoC3), and BRP. I felt severely burned by the MRQ book, myself. It may since have been errata'd into utility, and later books may have made a whole game out of it, but what I bought turned out to be something I regretted.

I nearly shined on MGT because of it. If I hadn't had the chance to get a free preview of MGT through playtest, I would have avoided it. Glad I didn't, but that MRQ book still rankles me.

The first 3 MRQ books were a bad decision on Mong's part. The re-edited Runequest Deluxe is a terrific game. I bought the original HCs too and disliked them, but the Deluxe was so good it made me contemplate plaing it instead of Warhammer 1st.
Then I got a speeding ticket and had to sell most of my games.
Damn it.

Wow. That must have been quite a speeding ticket - I'm assuming that it isn't that you had few games .;)

The ticket was over $200 (and I do keep a small amount of RPGs). Plus, I have several other bills (tag time, tax time, sigh).
Now, I'm selling Classic Traveller reprints on ebay because my sell did not go so well. So if you want the FFE CT reprints, I've got 6 of 'em.
I'm keeping my T4 (I liked it a lot) and I'm going to keep my MongT. I had to sell my MongRQ. THAT hurt! That game is far better than it gets credit for. I hate to lose it.

And Conan RQ is a match made in heaven. I'd LOVELOVELOVE to see a Star Trek Traveller. But I really doubt I'm the first to want such. :)
Since their Brits, maybe they could do Lexx?

Let me get this straight....

You're selling your CT and keeping T4?

(scratches head)

Why in the world would you do that?

Because I need the money and fast. CT will sell for about $25 a book and the lone T4 book I have will sell for about $3.
I don't want to sell anything, but I need about $150 and fast. I think what I'll do is go back later and get Books 1-3, Robots, and Citizens of the Imperium, since those were the books I thought most likely to be used by me.

And the T4 main rule book is very well laid out. As I said, I liked it a lot. CT is a very good game, but obviously created with military veterans/hobbyists in mind since it has a proponderance of military acronym and terminology and not even the tiniest whiff of a glossary. :)

CT is a very solid military sci fi game. Witness the overpowering emphasis on military characters. H3ll, they don't even have skills for sciences of any kind in any of the 40+ books I have in reprint. So much for Mr. Spock. lol Still, it is a terrific game and if I didn't need the $$$ so daahm bad I'd just add the skills myself. Unfortunately, times are tough and it's either CT, Call of Cthulhu, DC Heroes, or Warhammer 1st. DCH would be the most valuable, but there is no way I am parting with it. CoC I use in every game I play/run and every book/story I write as a reference, and I'd sell my own flesh and blood before I'd part with Warhammer after owning and playing it well nigh 20 years. CT, alas, it is.

Just sold Adventures! Now what's left is Books, Supplements, JTAS vol 1, Aliens vol 1, and Games. I have 100% positive feedback (400+ ratings) and I charge a whole dollar for shipping. Also, I endeavor to be the cheapest seller on all my books. Buy now while supplies last!
Sigh. I'd rather they went to a nice home. lol. It sucks having to sell them.
