what's your favourite lbb and why ?

My favorite lbb has to be, like others here, Book 5. Especially when coupled with Adventure 5. Together they make up an entire game all by themselves! I can't even tell you how much time I still waste on those two.

My favorite CT products are still The Traveller Book and The Traveller Adventure. Together, they are a complete RPG and long running campaign. Those two alone once sustained my old college gaming group for over an entire year. I still pull them out from time to time, just to read through them again.

Hmmmm... I was suprised more people didn't say Book 4 Mercenary. Why??? Guns, Guns, Guns!!!
</font>
  • Book 4 introduced the enhanced char gen system.</font>
  • Book 4 brought us the ever-popular merc campaign (those of us who cut our teeth on Pournelle's the Mercenary found this a godsend!)</font>
  • Book 4 brought us the PGMP and FGMP - ZZZZAAAAAPPPPP!!! You're vaporised!</font>
  • Book 4 brought us Battledress</font>
Seriously - a munchkin's catalog of crunchy goodness ;) (yes I started playing in high school)

Yes - I loved High Guard and Scouts - for the BIG starships (mmmm spinal mounts!) and serious (for it's time) rock-heading respectively.

Adventures: Twilight's Peak for long form and Shadows/AnnicNova for the doubles. Honorable mention to TCS as it enabled a group of 2 to have serious Traveller fun.

Supplements: A toughie. Spinward Marches was dazzeling when it came out... all those WORLDS! But then I got hold of a friend's copy of Traders & Gunboats and the deckplans made me drool.... In the end though, the two Library Data books completely blew my young mind. Now there was some freakin background!

In the end though I have to agree that all you really need is a copy of the Traveller Book and the Traveller Adventure, paper, some pencils and a hand full of six sided dice to be in SF-RPG heaven.

Wow, tall order. . .

Traders and Gunboats - This coupled with High Guard had me designing and deckplaning more ships than I care to think about. (I just wish I had the ability to draw and visualize more than 'flying bricks' however).

Death Station - Perhaps the finest first adventure to bring a new PC team together.

Scouts - It's all been said before; a great book.

The Traveller Adventure - The first in-depth adventure/campaign chock full of Traveller goodness.

These are what I would consider the best but a great many others come close, with nary a dog in the lot.

Hmm. My favorite? Each one that someone else buys me!

First is the starter set I found two years ago, and second is book 4. Then are the first three books and book 0.

The Traveller Book and The Traveller Adventure. Two books that took up WAAAYYY too much of my time in middle school and high school. THose are all you need to run a Traveller game for at least a year.
After those two I like LBB 1-7
4 for the Mercs and Ground Military and discussion of higher tech warfare
5 for Navy rules and the once learned/easy to use HG rules
6 for Scouts and the sophisticated system design rules
7 for Merchants and the analysis of interstellar trade
Supplement 4 for all the other Classes!

Word to that, Father...

One of the finest days of me "misspent" youth was buying the Traveller Book In an obscure gaming store somewhere in Rural Rhode Island... It still tops the list for me for "Slick Production Design"

Book 3 - my god, you can build an entire universe!

Closely followed by Book 2 and Book 4 ;)

Adventures? Never too impressed with CT adventures to be honest, but we did enjoy the creepyness of Death Station.

AS for Supplements - Citizens of the Imperium. Just so damn useful!

I'd have to agree with the Baron and Father F. I found my copy at a book store in the local mall by accident. One of my prouder moments.
As for my actual lbb fav's I'd choose books 4 and 6.
