What's your T20 universe going to be like?

Not plaid skirts, plaid shirts, and don't forget the comfortable shoes.

It goes back to Mike Metlay's classic document on intimate relationships of the Aslan and Vargr. It's one of the TML topics that can start long threads of people quoting canon and generally carrying on.

MTU have been darker than most games I've played and run (except the Aliens RPG from several years ago). I do like the universe to be a dangerous place, kinda wild westish in that things can be going normal and suddenly you've a shoot out at high noon and somehow you gotta get back to your ship before then cause he's 50x the marksman you are. My pc's are usually in it for themselves, and for some reason cannot go back to the planets from which they came. ;) For quite a few of my games, I've thrown in some horror type stuff (anyone play the comp game System shock 2?), using virus ships or some nasty evil creature from planet TJ. (MTU is usually home created universe too btw) I'm not exactly sure what I'm gonna do with T20, I suppose I'll read through the rules first and see the changes before I make up my mind. Can't wait to make some ships though. ;)

It is my intention to establish my T20 campaign in the spinward areas of the galaxy c.1110. I am waiting to see the finished product.. and having recently discovered the D20 system in 3rd ed. D&D I am anxiously looking forward see how the dynamics of the system plays out in the Traveller universe.

my 1st campaign with t20 is to mount a major war of extintion against the Vargr, then destroy all of there planets, wipe out all of there influence
past, present and future, if any thing is left...sow salt in/on it so nothing will ever grow on it again...then post a bounty on their hides if any are left somewhere. the wipe out there 70+ pages of internet..then wipe all reference to them in traveller "canon"....THEM when thats all done....Get Nasty with them!!!!!

HA HA JUST KIDDING ----

TJ I think you might be carrying this whole Vargr thing just a little too far. Might be nice if you'd tone it down a little.

Does this mean you will selling Vargr pelts for cheap? I need a good throw rug for the floor of my galley but I don't have lots of credits to spare.

Being an absolute Traveller virgin I intend to coble together a TU from my Sci-fi reading, TV and movie influences, as far as setting goes.

I also plan to kit-bash my rules together. I will probably combine T20 with some Spycraft, Mecha Crusade and Call of Cthullu.

But all of this is moot as I can not find a Sci-Fi gamer anywhere down here in Goth Hell.

In MTU, in my RPGs in general, I tend to run them realistic rather than cinematic. And I DETEST anything that smells “campy.” As such, I don’t know how the clearly cinematic FEATS system will impact my campaign.

“Oh GOD! We have a hull breach! We’re DOOMED!!!”

“No problem, Skipper. My character uses his Miracle Worker Feat to turn the toaster oven into a plasma welder. I then use the aluminum from a Havacola can to seal the breach. Hey guys, wake me when the bar fight starts. I’m going to take a little nap”

I'd like to run a Navy game with PCs as crew of an Imperial cruiser (in my own universe) - it'd be a cross between Star Trek and playing the Imperials in Star Wars. I've done something similar for a short-lived game using AD&D-style rules, back before 3e came out; it'll be nice to have proper rules!

I'm going semi-canon...I'll be using old dgp data backdated to 1000 on Corridor to support a campaign set in Provence along the border. However, I won't be using DGP Vargr book to develop Provence, although I will use some ideas from SJG's Alien Races 1.

The main events are around Imperial attempts to prop up a Vargr client state being used as a buffer "above the line" and attempts by some non-government groups (perhaps with clandestine support by some Imperial factions) to create a human dominated buffer state in Provence bordering Corridor. While the players will probably begin as traders they will have the option to take advantage of the politics in different ways.

Just starting to work out the details now, but I'm going to base my campaign in the Meshan Sector, coreward of the Third Imperium and spinward of the Julian Protectorate. The area closest to the two powers (the trailing rimward subsectors) have seen repeated skirmishes between the Imperium and the Protectorate since the Julian Wars, with a number of the closest planets to the two powers fiercely independent of either side. The area has been in a long (century perhaps?) dull period, but population pressures have made the more coreward areas of the sector, previously unexplored, look mighty inviting...

I'm thinking of the crew initially running a privately-owned initial survey ship (either from an academic foundation, a la 2300AD or from a private company) exploring some of the planets for development. Some are technologically advanced minor races, some having "lost colonies" from the Julian Wars or misjumps, and--for the big campaign build up--a small, independent state, perhaps ran by a race who has been able to adapt Ancients technology or acquired primative Jump-2 drives from Vargr or Vilani wreckage (I'm leery of actually adding another major race, as appealing as the idea is).

Agreed, as well as Cookie-cutter style adventures. I like twists, turns, and surprises. Ala "The Usual Suspects" or better, Alsitair maclean/ Jack Higgins). Campy--Puh Leez, here's your Sign!

I'm eyeing an early Rule of Man setting.
Deep in 1st Imperium space.
Strutting Solomani Confed Military, abitious Solomani merchants (Carpetbaggers), well meaning yet clueless diplomats, and a Vilani government trying to deal with it's new masters.

The Vilani would be modeled after the Imperial Chinese bureaucracy.

I've generated this Solomani Confed Naval Ensign to put in charge of a Vilani system. (at least by HG rules, hopefully by T20 rules soon). Now it's time to generate some long service NCOs to put on his staff. The types who can work the black marke t and the TCN supply systems...

I've been reading the T4 Milieu 0 suppliment and the idea of a Empire does appeal, but I also want to mix in elements from Iain Banks 'Culture' novels and also films like Fifth Element (the city visuals were fantastic).

There will be lots of unexplored planets with lots of old and powerful tech to be discovered. Also there will be aliens like the T'sa from Alternity rpg, and some limited appearances by ultra powerful Ancients.

My version of the Empire will possibly like a projection of earths C19 empires into the future....so expect to see rival Nobles from New Brittania doing a bit of gunboat diplomacy (this idea needs some work).

Space, being quite a big place, is perfect for allowing a wide range of styles of game to exist at the same time. A few jumps in any given direction can move the characters from the familiar core worlds of the Neo Victorian empire of earth to the horror filled clusters ruled by the Vampiric alien race etc etc.

I'll be using a late 3I (M1100) Domain of Deneb, based upon the stats for the consolidated domain.

I'll be running a mystery with high-level PC's in the party.

The title will be "Cold Contact."
