• Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
  • We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.

Wow, no new posts.

According to my browser there've been NO new posts the entire weekend.

Compare that to a month and a half ago and I'm starting to think there's more than a "bot net" thing happening with my computer.

Apologies to Avery, Hunter, et al.

No wonder no one replies to my adventure submissions.

I'll make myself scarce. Thanks.

It's always slower on the weekends.
I think more people access from work than home.

Don't be so paranoid :D

Summer weekends, especially in August, are often a little slow on a lot of the boards I visit. Folks are at GenCon (which was this weekend) or otherwise on vacation.

Everyone I knew on this site - around 25 - left because of the militant moderators. I only pop on a few times a year, myself, choosing to get my Traveller fix elsewhere. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer interaction over crickets.

I've counted 15+... some of which are in areas not everyone sees.

Not meaning to start a fight, but I've seen nothing in the forum that I'd consider militant. Since I've been the subject of "moderation" at least once (entirely my fault), I don't think I'm being biased. And, so far, I've found the site to be pretty useful - it's not Grand Central, but it's not Cricketville either.

FWIW, I often don't see new posts or forums with new posts flagged as such.

Usually there's a reason for it I can account for, such as having previously started a browser in "resume" mode that has COTI in one of the tabs, but never going to that tab. Then later I come here specifically and see no new posts because there's been nothing new since the prior blind log-in.

But sometimes I can't account for it, it seems like there's a double-step when I log in, with all the new posts being marked as not-new a moment later. *shrug* So I usually expect to have to go and look to see if anything looks new, even in cases where there are posts marked as new.

And...on weekends I'm usually pretty busy, and don't always get by, or get by at a time when I'm cogent enough to post. ;)

Hi,

I think that the forum was down for some of us this weekend too. I know I wasn't able to access it from my home computer at all this weekend. It would either just hang or give my some error page regarding a DNS issue or something like that.

Where? The ones I have seen are either more dead, or more dead with far worse admin/mods.

...but I've seen nothing in the forum that I'd consider militant...

Clearly others have, which makes your singular observation meaningless. Here's the thing: before others pretend to be clueless (either by accident, or on purpose), just know that when people who are aware of which I speak see comments that state otherwise (yours, for example), it will be readily assumed you are in cahoots - either through head-in-butt, or consciously siding - with the militant mods in which I speak of.

No site recommendations. It would be assumed that I am 'recruiting' members, something I am totally against, and therefore would give the mods a very real reason to ban me, and deservedly so in this particular case.

Thoth

Which, as Thoth learned the hard way, attempts to recruit and/or blanket site recommendations is one of the prohibited activities here.

It's not militantism - it is, however, also not negotiable. Been one of the rules since I first joined.

See, here's an example: Aramis has just mislead everyone with his comment implying I tried to recruit before. That is a LIE! Clearly, nothing has changed. Judge yourself, Aramis. I don't lie, but clearly you do!

Yawn!

Clearly something was wrong. I joined this board in 2001. Until 2009, I only had a problem with 1 person on this board. In 2009, I had to put 20 people on my ignore list. I doubt it was the Mods that was the problem. Most of those 20 people don't frequent CotI anymore.

Check your list of 'Usual Suspects'.

BTW, and let me state the obvious: putting members on your ignore list does not in any way, shape or form, discredit my comments about the militant mods. If you think it does in some way, then I feel sorry for you.

BTW, I already pointed out how far the mods will go, see above. Aramis intentionally implied a lie about myself to mislead with intent to bias other members views. Nothing has changed, and clearly so.

It's all fairly ironic, I was banned from one forum by gurps people for sticking up for Marc and T5, yet you go over to possibly the largest rpg forum around and who is the anti T5 posterboy? A mod from here.

Yep, it was a sign to leave. All Traveller rpg's are legitimate, IMHO.

An aside: I will never understand the editions flame wars in this world, be it Traveller, or more notoriously, D&D. Why the weird few can't accept others personal preferences, I'll never know.

Most of the issues that are being referred to took place long before you joined this forum.

Most of those issues do not exist any more. Or at least I haven't seen them creep up.

:p (Tried doing the popcorn smiley but it failed. :) )

Yeah, I am not on your ignore list any more, yes.
LOL
