After Action Report. 11SEPT05
Ok. Last time we left our heroes they had escaped the mind flayer threat and made it back to their base of operations. With the kind help of the people on this board I put together this mission loosely based on help Marquis Deadlock sent out to me and some of the suggestions from this board. Subtle hints are droped, direction is given but noooooooooo not them. They decide that they want to go BACK for the 400 ton lab ship! Shi* They just can’t have it so I put a big mean battle ship there thinking they will get the hint. OK they jump out and do they follow the hints and crumbs to the next adventure? Hell no they embark on some white collar crime caper instead. Realizing that their associate is a former Tureka lines manager and has contacts in the shipping industry and knows many shady people they get a false title to the ship and are trying to get an insurance policy on a ship they are sure is going to be destroyed so they can collect the money. I did not see that one coming at all.
While they are in a starport they see a few mind flayers coming through security. They are here on a trade mission. What do my twitchy PCs do? Attack with everything they have got. Well SA security shows up moments later with the big guns and the PCs claim the mind flayers have mind powers and they are here to destroy the Imperium. A few Mind Flayers survive and a test reveals they possess psionics and the PCs are let off the hook after a few papers are filed by their lawyer.
So… at the end of the day. A carefully crafted plot blown to hell, with lots of fun had by all.
Sure they can have the policy, sure they will collect he the money but the payout on a 400 ton lab ship is going to be big, real big, big enough to be noticed. Somewhere up the line somebody is going to catch it. You see Lysani Pharmaceuticals the real owner of the lab ship is a distant subsidiary of Zirunkariish. The insurance company is also a subsidiary of Zirunkariish. Internal audit will find the “issue” and it will work its way back to the PCs and bite them in the rear end in the form of a few hit men. They many be able to pay off the right people to stay alive but it is gonna cost them, not everything mind you but enough.
Somebody here once said that no plot survives an encounter with players.
It is so true. I think everybody had a good time and they are doing their own thing and that’s ok by me.
Thanks everybody.
