You know you've been playing Traveller too long when

1) You're reading a news article about 'Drone Strikes' and your first response is 'Drones wouldn't go on strike, they're too dedicated to the needs of the Oytrip.'

I was doing a supplier QA audit a few years back and was spot checking a rather extensive inventory. The supplier's internal part numbers were...

... hexadecimal, and....

... generally 6 to 8 digits long.

I spent most of the week with UWPs floating around in my head.

my first thought on seeing this was "Who stole the children of the Oytrip?"

you've ever figured out how many displacement tons your house/apartment is.

Hoo-boy, my Traveller OCD goes into overdrive when I'm in a building with easily counted floor and/or cieling tiles. By the way, the building I live in is about 96 tons.

You time the conception-events of your children so that their birthdays coincide with that of Marc W. Miller.

You shut off the radio and air-conditioning in your car, and dim its headlights before "jumping" onto the freeway.

You purchase one of those GPS navigator devices for the expressed purpose of avoiding a "misjump".

Your fishing boat is named "Beowulf".

You meet someone really "hot", and your first thought is, "I just gotta find out where they are concealing the body pistol!"

... your second thought is, "I really gotta add this one to my patrons list!"

yeesh,

one of my players and her husband(a former player) in my F2F game once said that having kids was not gonna effect their ability to game(and do SCA).

I reminder her of that when two of my other players made the hour plus trip in the weather that was this weekend in NJ and she called up to say her youngest had sprained her ankle and she did not feel she could leave the child alone with dad as that would be too much of an imposition on her husband...

(FYI: He left the game when he lost his job and had to change schedules, before which they were alternating who would come to play and who would stay home with the kids)

I started statting up characters during a movie.:D

I routinely pick out info on travel times in SF TV and film and ask myself how the story would be handled if they were using Trav FTL/comms rules. What's interesting is that the shows where they try to be most specific, rather than sidestepping or arm-waving it all, drive me the craziest. I can hardly contain myself while watching B5, frex, as the inconsistancies in its own system leap out at me when I do this. My family appreciates when I withhold my expostulations, so I do--usually. :)

You know you've been playing Traveller too long when...

- You've redesigned the entire Solar system at least once.

- Your checks get rejected because you keep filling them out with the equivalent Imperial dates.

- You can calculate the equivalent Imperial date for any date in Terrestrial history, using any calendar system every devised on Terra.

- You habitually use the words "Terra" and "Luna" instead of "Earth" and "The Moon".

- You stay awake at night, wracking your brain to come up with a unique entry to this list.

- During every movie or tv show you watch, you try to figure out how to make the plot into a Traveller adventure

I often look at a a distant spot, estimate the distance in metres and then calculate my to hit chance with a variety of weapons from Book 1 :)

All these I see of not playing Traveller enough...those who play delight in all this fanboy stuff but have moved on to seriously designing starships, campaigns and the converting the Traveller Adventure/Knightfall into Screenplays and awaiting response from TV studios for the next best thing - Survivor OTU...any number of Hostile Worlds await...

I would post more but my Internet rights have been suspended...by the hospital authorities...

You know you've been playing Traveller way too long when...

- Your friends and relatives feel the need to perform an "Intervention".

- You address yourself in the third person when speaking to your therapist ("Keklas considers the question and merely lifts his eybrow").

- They give you meds to suppress your psionic abilities.

- You know you could prove your story if only they'd let you contact your ship.
