You know you've been playing Traveller too long when

You argue minor points of canon quoting page numbers from memory, but can't remember more than a few religious text citations for major points of your chosen religion of affiliation.

You can recite all of the names of all of the emperors since Milieu Zero, but can't remember the names of your in-laws and co-workers.

- During every movie or tv show you watch, you try to figure out how to make the plot into a Traveller adventure
Did that with The Dogs Of War.

I set it on Ruie and used the descriptions in the novel as the basis for the layout of the town and the presidential compound.

The players hosed down the presidential compound with the ship's lasers. Bastards.

Or...

...your chosen religion of affiliation IS a Traveller religion.

Disciples of the Bright Way

Placekeepers

The Order of Desdemona (see below).

The Order of Desdemona believes that space travel is the imperative of the universe... and they send out their female followers in groups of "7 Sisters" to teach all sentient species how to build their own spaceships (regardless of the Scout Service's rulings on tech transfer).

They also bake some great cookies.

Their robes have the constellation Pleiades on the front and back.

Their oldest religious text appears in the form of a song “Desdemona’s building a Rocket-ship” … claimed to date from before the Solomani achieved interplanetary space-flight. Likewise, the oldest account of the life of Desdemona appears in a text “Where is Joe Marchant” from the same period. Both of these works are believed to have been authored by one of her first disciples, a legendary singer/songwriter named “Jimmy Buffet”.

His personal testimony (found in a song titled “Fruitcakes”) is as follows: “You know, I was talking to my friend Desdemona the other day [she runs the Space Station Bake Shop down near Boomtown]. She told me that human beings are flawed individuals, that the Cosmic Bakers took us out of the oven a little too early and that’s the reason we’re as crazy as we are, and I believe it.”

That is why Presidential compounds have anti-ship lasers mounted around the compound and that area is a no-fly zone!

Automatic response unless deactivated by FoF codes.

...when you're happily married, have children, are successful in your chosen career and you regard the greatest day of your life is when you discovered that the first (or last) six digits in your government-issued ID are the correct stats for you in Traveller notation.

...when I said "career" your first thought was (Army, Navy, Marines, Merchant, Scout, Other)

Speaking of careers...

You know you've been playing Traveller too long when...

...fresh out of high school you talked to the recruiters for your country's military and:

The Army recruiter looked at you funny when you asked if you'd be serving on this planet.

None of the Navy brochures had pictures of starships, just a lot of water craft.

You wanted to know why the Marines require you to become proficient with Cutlass.

Nobody could direct you to the Merchant service recruiter.

You outright stated you were not there to join the Scouts because too many die in training.

And when they finally kicked you out and told you you're not cut out for service...

...you went home to wait to be drafted, hoping for the career you wanted in the first place, but anything except Other was ok!

:D

EDIT - Not a (quite) true story* ;)

:oo:

When you order the CD-Archive... explain with intimate detail just HOW COOL THIS GAME IS

When it arrives a few days later... the kids are ticked off because they thought it was a COMPUTER GAME! "It's on a CD, Dad!" :nonono:

I just giggled.

Ahh....
