A very nice design, from what I can see. (An engineer, I'm not.)
Practical...?
If I were a modern day pirate (which, of course, I'm not, being in land-locked and generally snow-bound Minnesota... :rofl: ), I think such a design would make a great target.
Of course, it wouldn't be used (much, I hope!) on frontier planets.

After watching Fantastic Four, I designed a space-faring yacht with an under-slung observation dome; I sure wish I could have done as good a job as these guys!
