10+ Questions You Would Ask MWM

Back to the questions...

i) Do you picture that T5 would be a stand alone game system like the original CT or deeply integrated into the OTU.

ii) How do you feel about Traveller as a game system and what would you like to see changed.

iii) Have you ever been to Hollywood or approached by Hollywood for the rights to the Traveller game as a film or TV series?

iv) Traveller in its early days was inspired alot by Star Wars...what are some of the things that inspire you now when you play/think about Traveller?

v) Would you want to see more of a wargaming approach or role playing approach to Traveller gaming (the rules allow both).

vi) Are there any unfinished projects from the days of the workshop lying in your desk drawer?

vii) Is FFE breaking even with the reprints and what is the reason for so many delays?

viii) Why wasn't 2300AD attempted as the early days of the Traveller universe?

ix) What are your options of Traveller art and what directions would you want to see it move?

x) Why don't you post more frequently on the CofI boards?

my question to mwm

when will you write another adventure?

no other writer gets it quite as right imho.

i would pay top dollar for this.

even just a short one.

i'm sure everybody here would buy it.

Funny Jame, I thought that Books 0-3 outlined that exact answer (for question #2).
Since question #2 is about how skills and attributes are used as DMs, and also since I don't have books 0-3 but only the Starter Set, maybe you (kaladorn) or someone could answer that?

I thought I had answered that here, or elsehwere. Joe Fugate seemed to indicate that prior to the DGP work, there was not a formalized task system. Ergo, in the early CT books, skills had target numbers assigned for various tasks, and DMs assigned sort of ad-hoc as they felt appropriate. I'm not sure there was a real underlying logic, other than some concept of what the dice probabilities were and a feeling for how hard a task should be. DM's and target numbers vary a lot from skill to skill. Was that not what you were wondering?

That's what I'm wondering, but if you answered it I must have missed it. Maybe you could PM me so as to not distract from this thread (further, anyway)?

Okay Jame, PM me specifically what you need to know. Essentially, each skill is pretty much different in terms of target numbers and DMs, and they only describe some of the tasks a skill can perform so you are left to infer the rest.

Well, bearing in mind I'm fairly T5 focused right now.

1 - Were the original Armour Maker Values set against the ratings in the H1 column in Gun Maker as they appear to have been? The Hit System 1 10+ to kill NPCs also seems to support this as they are harder to kill than PCs as it stands.

2 - If so, why on earth are the typed damage dice not cumulative against armour, as armour is now virtually impenetrable in spite of Penetrate x2.

3 - Why weren't the Gun Maker base ratings one die higher? Seriously, you want a punch to do 1d damage I'd like a basic pistol to do at least 2d damage.

4 - Were you aware that as things stand the best way to defeat a tank is to have it attacked by a horned beast with a Strength of 30 as, according to Blade Maker gives it Penetrate 30, that's 30 dice and better than a small nuke?

5 - Surely a super heavy tank can mount heavier weapons than a very light flyer. Why don't weapon mounts scale up in size with the vehicle?

6 - While we're on vehicles a heavy attack flyer comes in at 58 dTons. That's huge! Not only that but it has a Load of 17 dTons which indicates it's not all wings taking up too much space. What's going on there?

7 - Why is "Sniper" a stage? I just don't get it. Shouldn't we be able to have an Ultimate, Heavy, Sniper Rifle?

8 - While I can kind of see why Assault is used for explosive rounds when a Light Battle Rifle or a Battle Carbine can easily act as a modern assault rifle. Assault, Combat, and Snub seem pretty similar. Wouldn't it be more reasonable to just have Explosive?

9 - Why do fully automatic weapons like Machine Guns get extra damage in the combat rules and Gun Maker? Shouldn't it be just one or the other?

10 - How is the Third Imperium book progressing and will it contain a full atlas of the imperium with updated UWPs, the fully developed major races, and the fully stated green list ships?

I would love to see Marc Miller actually answering some of these questions in a video. And if he decided to do it my question would be:

Would he consider revisiting the Classic Traveller books with the view to publishing a new range of updated versions with corrections? Doesn't he ever just want to sweep away all that has gone since and get back to a revamped set of classic rules?

just one. how do I send you a bottle of champaign? like to say thanks for the game.

I have to second that ... it is a grand gesture. I'd like to thank Mark and the Traveller Crew for all the good memories.

Also I agree with
