OK, just ordered mine. Now how long is the wait to get the confirmation email with password so I can download the material and access the forum?

You should be able to login using your regular CotI username and password, assuming you used the same email address on the order as you did to register here.

I didn't even realise I was getting an email, I just clicked on the link on the order receipt page and grabbed the pdf.

I tried that. When I click on the forum link, I get
"You do not have permission to enter this area.

» Please use your browser's back button to return."

When I try to get the files, it asks for my name and password 3 times then gives me

"The areas you are attempting to access have been classified by authorization of the Emperor.
Access is allowed to authorized Imperial personnel only.

Move along... "

I just check the bank, and the money has already been withdrawn, so what gives?

Here's what it said on the bottom of the email I got (only a matter of minutes after I order the book):

>>>>>>Information From The Developer <<<<<<

Thank you for your ordering Bearers of the Flame Playtest and Preorder

Click the link below to activate your access to the playtest forum and files. This link will only work once. If for any reason you run into any problems and are not forwarded to a page confirming your access, please email us at gripreg@RPGRealms.com where we can manually set up your access if necessary.

I suggest dropping Hunter an email, I'm sure he'll get it sorted for you PDQ.

Hunter,

I nearly did this, I can probably justify the US$30 to the wife ... but the US$17.50 shipping costs on top of it is just too much.

Sorry,
Unfortunately that's the rates we have to charge. If you run the numbers under the USPS rate calculator those are the numbers we are charged.

For example:

1 lb, 5oz package (rough estimate of the weight of the book when packed for shipment)

To the UK: $23.00 for Parcel Post, $20.00 for Airmail (I know, but in this case Airmail IS cheaper, go figure...)

To Canada: $13.25 for Airmail, $15.25 for Parcel Post (again Airmail is actually cheaper for some reason).

In both cases we have begun to add insurance ($1.85) on all overseas orders. We've had a bad rash of lost shipments overseas and we were literally getting to the point of losing enough money to consider dropping overseas orders all together. This lets the USPS track any order and covers us if it does end up getting lost.

So as you can see, in many cases we end up losing money on overseas shipping. If I could do it any other way and make it cheaper, trust me I would! If anyone has any suggestions I am open to hearing them!

PS: If we can ship them airmail we do, despite the shipping charge stating Standard Parcel Post.

Also the book is expected to finish up at 256+ pages with final artwork, etc.

Looking into your problem at the moment. I'll have you set up by the end of the night at the latest, though it will likely be in the next few minutes...

Well, it won't help the shipping, but maybe an option to just get the final PDF version on its own (not a hardcopy) might be an idea? You might have to knock the price down a bit (to around $20, perhaps?), since I don't think people are quite ready to pay the same for a PDF as they would for a hardcover.

But that might encourage more people to buy it, especially from distant parts.

That's OK, it's why I buy most stuff online as PDFs - printing is free for me, so I don't mind doing that at my end.

Any chance of there being an option to be involved, but with a PDF being delivered to me only? That would get rid of the shipping cost and might let you drop the initial cost as well (I know it doesn't help you pre-finance the print run, but ...).

By the way, what happened to your avatar?

One thing I've learned in life...
You can't please everyone all the time.

The impolite comment made on TML attests to that.

I think Traveller needs to grow, and I intend to purchase the ability to at least read, if not comment on, the new concept.

It's very bold - and I think very welcomed, Hunter and MJ.

I, for one, will support it - with buying legit material for it, as well as contributing adventures for it.

There *are* plug-ins for webservers (for ASP at least) that will brand the user's name, and other personal info onto each PDF ordered. But that's another can of worms. Could lead to falsely modfiying PDFs to frame people, etc.

Anything I can do, just let me know.

At last, home and, ordered! <looks about, checks for lightningbolts from Ancients in Tower of T20 evil from skies>...
