A Campaign for Striker

Judas

SOC-7
This is not a post about a Campaign using the Game Striker. It is about the Game Striker.

I was just wondering how many people would have been more into Striker (both the Original Version, and the Striker II TNE version) if there had been a miniature line that was as well supported as the evil empire supports WH40K?

I have an e-mail from Mr. Miller indicating that he intends to re-print Striker (Original version) as a separate game as originally released next year.

I have been working on some miniatures in my spare time at work (architectural sculptor) for Traveller.

Just out of curiosity, what scale would people be most interested in having miniatures for the RPG, and for playing Striker (either version)?

Also, What would people like to see done as a miniature most from the Treaveller Universe?

Minatures - 15mm. A lot of existing stuff is already in that scale. Old time players may well have existing deck plans and figures. 15mm works quite well for tabletop skirmish games too. For large scale games, the micro scales used to be popular (can you tell I used to do this a long time ago? ;) ).

As for what I'd like to see.... figures suitable for use as PCs. The old figure sets (Games Workshop, Ral Patha) had quite a number of military figures, vacc suited figures and ships crew, but there weren't many that made really good PCs.

Just me 2c's worth.

For playing STRIKER, I would prefer 1/300 scale, or 1/285. I like the smaller minis that look closer to the scale of the terrain, and I like to fight larger battles, for which the smaller minis are better.

Smaller minis can be cheaper, too.

That was the scale I meant by 'micro'. You can tell it's been a while :)

As you mentioned, building large forces at that scale is considerably cheaper.

I'd go for 6mm because I like larger scale games myself. One of my frustrations with Striker(original) is that it is too detailed for the scale of stuff I enjoy. GW's Epic is a much better system for Company/Battalion level actions. Very abstract, but plays fast and forces you to make the type of decisions a commander at that level would face.

RPG's - 28mm

Wargame - 1/285 / 1/300

I only use 15mm for massed historical figures. You can get more units on the table and have the ranges seem a tad more realistic with 1/285 compared to 15mm

Sounds like MM ran out of Striker sets then.

</font>[/QUOTE]I didn't call them "microarmor" scale because I wasn't sure if any of these young pups that seem to frequent this board would understand what I meant.

Got to be 6mm for playing Striker for me. Back when I was young we never played it much due to the problems with getting miniatures. I still have a couple of butchered Chieftains that I tried to convert into grav tanks. We always saw it as a 6mm game. Now there are excellent 6mm SF miniatures from Alder, GZG and Brigade. More suppliers the better in my book, particular for infantry.

For Traveller I still like 15mm. I wish I were rich enough to pick up the old Citadel sets when they come up on eBay. I’ve got a handful and I think these stand up very well to today’s 15mm miniatures. All the lovely deck plans that are still out there just asking to be used with At Close Quarters.

Be lucky,

One scale that seems to be the up and coming is 10mm/N scale/ 1/160th scale. I've seen it used by AOG and it seems to be a useful scale.

As a side note and rant, it seems to me that GDW was an expert at picking unusual scales that were near useless here in the states. I'm still scratching my head over the choice of 20mm for 2300AD miniatures. 15mm is not good for RPG's just tabletop wargames. GDW didn't see 25mm as an up and coming scale. EOR.

N scale's good since you can use Railroad stuff *but* it's yet another scale for me to *not* get into. It's also used by DP9 for their Heavy Gear etc. lines and I think Battle Tech click.

Well 20mm corresponds to one of the popular military model scale (1/72? 1/76) which might be why. You mainly only see it used for modern military figures (WWII on) these days and not much. Again, Yet Another Miniature Scale. I already have invested in three scales for historical/science fiction.
