I have a book Arc Light by Eric l Harry, that details a version of ww3.

Another book is demolition day ? by Brendon Dubois but uses the premise that the US went into CUBA during the missile crisis and started ww3, the book only gives a few hints though as its set in the future and covers a possible version of a recovering USA

Also the film Threads a BBC docu drama based on ww3 from a british viewpoint, went from buildup to 10 years after the war.

Yes, Xenophon's Anabasis is classic. However....

A couple of people have mentioned Coyle's books already. there is one "The Ten Thousand" about a US Armor Task Force trying to get out of a Germany that suddenly goes Neo-Nazi (premise sounds bad, but works out well in the book).
