Evening all,

For some reason I am convinced that I read somewhere that the in order to demilitarize the AHL class ships that the firing and accelerator systems were removed and the muzzle plated over. Unfortunately I have failed to find the source.

Am I imagining the information?

It's from Supplement 5.

It's from Supplement 5.

Thanks and I did find the source, unfortunately the way Supplement 5 reads only the Auxiliaries had all major weaponry suppressed (removed and plated over). Also to me remove is to take out and not replace. A turret or bay can be removed and the opening plated over. The spinal weapon is per HG2 and Supplement 5

Supplement 5 (FFE 002) AHL p. 4 "The ship is built around three tubes; a spinal mount weapons tube and a twin small craft launch tubes."

HG2 p. 32 (FFE001) Major Weaponry:
This weapon may be either a particle accelerator or a meson gun, and forms the spine, of the foundation, of the ship.

I have always thought that the tube was the major component of a PA and MG spinal mount that had the accelerator and/or focusing systems inbedded into the structure, or at least a portion of the systems. Removing the spinal weapons makes me think of taking out the tube and all components. If the tube forms the spine/foundation you have just broken up the ship.

Maybe I'm just too literal for my own good.

Thanks again for the reply.

You might also assume that structural elements of the tube that are essential for a weapon, but not the ship as a whole, are removed or compromised. Removing any internal power feeds would likely be part of the plan, as well. Installing internal interferences as well as hull plates. For example, removing an accessible part of the tube, replacing it with a truss structure to provide structural support while breaking the path of the tube.

Morning saundby,

Thank you for the reply.

Basically the majority of the tube is left in place and the guts are removed. The rest the stuff mentioned are a long the lines I was thinking got removed.

I would agree. You can remove bay weapons and turrets from harpoints easily enought. You could even fit doors where the weapons protruded from the hull and use the are for small craft and cargo.

For spinal mounts I would assume they would leave the structure parts of the tube intact. All the components inside the tube would be removed, power and control connections removed as well and the computer purged of the necessary fire control and power management software.

You would then cap the ends and probably cap the tube at each deck level otherwise you have a huge void running the length of the ship with potential for leaks to vacuum, flame movement etc.

The waste space is pretty much useless. You could fill each level with small cargo but there isn't proper access for cargo containers etc. Probably best to fill it with extra fuel.

Cheers
Richard

Morning shield,

Nope make the tube a gaint swimming pool.:D

Now if they half filled it with water and then played with the internal G fields it could be an excellent indoor surfing experience :)

Until you met the big metal plate at the end, following swiftly by err, how many tons of water... lol
