AHL model

How realistic is the 3-d printer idea?
I would LOVE a mini of that to paint up and hang from the ceiling. My Fiancée is a gamer so I might even get away with it.

$400-$600 in parts, 20+ hours of assembly. For the 3D printer.

It's actually pretty easy these days - you can just upload the data file and the company will "print" it and send it to you. Price varies, but a 12" model might cost around $120.

Or you could buy your own printer.

A quick question on the non-bay turrets (batteries?) on your model Andrew. How many and how big are they?

My guesses are 50 (or 66) total: 5 rows of 3 per side on the front section of hull, 2 more per side just ahead of the "wings", and 8 more per side on each wing top (or 16 more per side, 8 on each wing top and bottom). If I've got the right bits (the bumps on the hull) figured as turrets (batteries).

Problem(s) (minor) being that the design has only 36 batteries (of various sizes). Broken down by my calcs as 330 turrets to fit tonnage hardpoint limits (as opposed to the canon listed 350 turrets which exceeds the hardpoint limit).

By the way, I have no problems with batteries being in fact big(ger) turrets. For example the 40 dual fusion turrets organized as 4 batteries should in my opinion be 4 large turrets* (20tons each) with two huge freaking fusion guns in each. Not literally 10 turrets (2tons each) with two tiny fusion guns in each, all swinging in unison to fire (though that is another possibility, generally smaller hulls maintain discreet turrets and organize batteries on the fly, larger hulls opt for bigger turrets and fixed batteries).

* small "bay weapons" in fact

Which is about 80 euro for a 12" model, about twice as much as a 5" Warhammer 40K tank (of which I have about 3 dozen). Sweet. You have a Trepida Grav Tank model aswell right?

And I keep forgetting to add my own verra nice Andrew

Of course a movie with fighters launching and the spinal firing would be tres shiney :D

Or, another route, if Andrew is willing, turn it into a large scale richly detailed paper-craft model. I did a quick and simple Type S years ago (nothing fancy) which I keep meaning to find a copy of in my mess and post).

Maybe he could use Pepakura (or a similar product). I've seen some pretty cool stuff there. Just so long as he let's me know in advance so I can buy stock in a printer ink company ;)

(actually, once all the license details are finally sorted out Andrew should get the job (and be richly payed) of making scaled reproductions of all the fun ships for Pepakura... )

Wow! I like that a lot as well!

(I'm at work too, but as I work out of my house...when I get bored I look over COTI and stuff)

What?! What had to be done??!! I'm *not at home* and can't access TuoYube!!! :(

Andrew's title (EDIT: ah, thought the title was in the post too, but it's only on the YT page: "Traveller Wars") and my little "scenario" bit above (previous page, so you maybe missed it) didn't give it away? :)

Something to look forward to when you get home ;)

Just in case...
Spoiler:
Andrew did the opening(?) chase scene of Star Wars IV with a Free-Trader in the role of the Rebel Cruiser and the AHL playing the Star Destroyer. Just a short clip, 34 seconds I think.

Laughing my @ss off...

Keep this Andrew and I'm gonna have to import some immigrant droolers as I will run out of my own. :p

Freaking awesome! Had me rolling and it was much better than 'Cats' I am going to have to watch it again and again...(really dated reference, but I am old enough to use it. :p)

Oh and when do we get to see the Spinal Mount firing...really want to see that too.
