All-Time Best set of Game Mechanics EVER WRITTEN?

Egads. Some mentioned here I consider dogs...

But, rather that start a tiff, I'll put in my own 2 cents.

And it truth, it's really rough for me the answer the question. I don't believe in "pinnacle" games. Though I could cite several better and worst games, amongst the best, there seem to me to be a number of games with their unique strengths and weaknesses that are difficult to quantify.

Right now I could easily offer up any of:
Spycraft 2.0
MegaTraveller
Hero

Again...not so clear answers from some, but...

...the totals so far look like this...

Classic Traveller. Marc nailed it, first time out. Not the easiest to play, but easy to run. And for me, gives the flavor, along with simplicity, that I can add detail to. UWP's, brilliant. UPP, brilliant. Traveller universe, Brilliant.

Recent favorite: Alternity, which is what MegaTraveller should have been...I think.
I'm running an Alternity game on WOTC chat, wednesday nights, inspired by my old traveller campaign.

Star Wars d6. By far easiest to play, easiest to teach. Feels like the movies. Dark side mechanics keep the d20 PVP Evil alignment types in firm check. Dramatic, far and above even classic traveller, which tend for me to character studies and political plots, which lots of players abhor, but everyone has seen star wars.

Top Secret, SI. Has the flavor, of a fast action movie, damage keeps it real, but the luck points allow the PC to survive missions, scathed. Spycraft, to me, is too unwieldy and arcane...but has that same flavor.

Tunnels and Trolls. Maybe too simple, but super simple, all the same. Needs some detail.

I did long ago so enjoy Star Frontiers.

For super asimov / heinlein / many others, Spacemaster, with all the trimmings. Maybe too detailed, but the ship combat charts taught me everything i needed to konw about "describing hits with flavor." Yes, chart heavy. But those charts are great for ideas.

All good games. I could easily name more, but those stand out.

Heh, you so can, Sir.

I have been thinking lately that It's near high time I start my own site, and join one of those Traveller webrings.
