• Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
  • We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.

As promised, my first deck plan!

Very nice me like!

Only problem I see is the crew deck Lift, does not show where it comes throught the floors of the other decks. Even though it is mentioned in the discription of the passenger commons.

Nice plan. Only a few minor things:

1. I'd be inclined to have solid doors on the passenger freshers rather than curtains, they can still be on the corners.

2. In common with other deckplans I have seen (you're not alone) you have ladders to upper floors in the middle of passageways. Do people have to constantly sidestep them?

3. The personnel airlock seems complex, I can't get my head around how it's used. EDIT: Ah, got it, I think - it's used if the hold is decompressed? But in that case how do you get to Engineering?

4. There is only 1 wc shared between 4 crew (though you have two showers). Better hope there's not a blockage! ;)

It goes from the crew deck to the passenger attic only. It isn't a square due to the bulkhead of the passenger attic. I could try reducing it's size to make it more visible?

EDIT: I shrunk the lift a little on each of the two decks to make them more noticeable. Uploading to the website soon.

I wanted the look and feel of CT plans, and this is the way they have always been. I have thought about actually putting stairs in ships, makes more sense, but didn't think anyone would like that because it wouldn't be Traveller.

Yes. Extra airlock to get into the hold (had the extra space so used it). Have to walk through the cargo bay to get to engineering.

If engineering is compressed, cargo not, would have to change the state of one of them. The normal state would be they are both compressed. The extra airlock I threw in simply allows someone in a vacc suit to enter the cargo hold if floating through space and the cargo doors happen to be open (instead of going out the main airlock then floating back in a cargo door - hazardous). They could then enter engineering if the air was let out, then let back in once they get there. Something that I think would only happen in some sort of emergency, like a cargo door being stuck open.

One toilet per three, not four (captain has his own). I think that is acceptable, think of the ratio in some homes. I thought about an extra toilet, but on a non-military ship, couldn't imagine two crew members taking a dump sitting a couple feet from each other. "Hey bud could you pass me the Traveller Times?" At least the showers have curtains. :)

I have been watching the PBS mini series on the crew who live and work onboard the USS Nimitz, the nuclear-powered aircraft supercarrier in service with the United States Navy.

How do those peole keep from going around the bend? Itty bitty liveing space, 12 on 12 off work rotation and constant noise from all the equipment :oo:

It makes Traveller crew acommedations look wastefully spacious and luxurious :smirk:

Try being on a Submarine!

Even less living space, no privacy and 4 showers for the 150+ enlisted crew. We had 8 toilets (heads) btw, so when designing military ships, 25 crew per head is not unreasonable..

Officers had a better deal as did the CPOs (Chiefs E7+)

It wasn't the ratio of wcs to crew I was thinking of, just the lack of redundancy. In a city house you can call an emergency plumber; in Jumpspace that blockage will be with you for a week and everyone has to troop into the captain's cabin for a dump.

Of course, your Referee wouldn't be that mean...

I believe that for most of social history it has been quite acceptable to take a dump in public. Maybe we live in particularly prudish times and projecting our customs into the 53rd century is unrealistic? Just a thought. ;)

Edit: What does canon say about lavatorial customs?
Eh? No, I thought not. ;)

Just checked out and downloaded AutoRealm myself.

Did I miss it, or did you say how you came across the interior symbol set you used. They look great, and I would not mind having them myself.

Thanks,

Thanks,

The symbols are my own creations, a growing collection. Give me a couple days or so and I will have my tutorial finished and up on my webiste with links to download the symbols.

Or if you can't wait, send me a private message and I can figure out how to mail them to you?

Oh, I can certainly wait, if you plan on making them available. No need to go to extra trouble if that's you plan. They do look very nice, and as I am not in a position to immediately make use of them, waiting is not the issue.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I have about half of the tutorial done, it's been boring, want to design another ship. :) I can go ahead an upload the incomplete tutorial version (mainly a rough draft) and add the symbols in a zip file possibly, depending on their total size. I need to clean some of the symbols first up first, give better names, etc. Next day or two will be on my website. When I do I will post here about it.

Tutorial is half-completed. It's on my website, but still needs some work.

My Autorealm symbols for Traveller are available now also if interested (not graphics for other programs, in a format useable only by Autorealm).

Dean or others: I would ask that if you improve any of my symbols or make new ones in the same style, that you would later send me a copy. The more symbols I have the happier I will be. :)

Currently working on my version of the Far Trader deckplans. :)

As soon as I figure out what you don't have, and I want, and how to do it : ), I will be sure to share.

I finished a Far Trader. It was a tough one, but my favorite so far! I updated some of my symbols when doing this including a new open-top air/raft.

I plan to continue working on the tutorial from time to time (it's boring) while working on a Fat Trader, common vehicles, and PDF versions of my plans so they can more easily be used. I will also be updating small things in my old plans (such as getting rid of the curtains, and reducing size of freshers) that I have corrected in the newer ones due to input from others.

These deck-plans are great - large, readable, clean, and having a lot of props (furniture, equipmnt and so on) to make combat interesting :)
