Broadsword Class Mercenary Cruiser render

Thanks, Cryton.

Probably not the best parking job. Just trying out a certain environ type for this scene.

Very nice work, Shonner. As I have no talent myself, I'm driven to steal for my games. Such as this bit I've appropiated for my Traveller: 1959 project.

Nice find, beowulf... I've saved it in my "Traveller/Traveller ships/Ball ships" file next to this (Ace 1960s):

and this (Ace 1972):

I have a question. What terrain vehicle is stored inside the Broadsword? Or does it matter what gets stored there?

Depends on what you mean :)

There is a basic Air/Raft in a small vertical (folds down and out for launch/retrieval imo) hanger.

And there are typically two ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles) carried in Cutter Modules. The ATVs are big things, 10tons each, and make decent troop carriers. They may be either tracked or wheeled. You could have as many as four ATVs if you swapped out the standard fuel modules.

Optionally you might have AFVs (Armored Fighting Vehicles) instead. These may also be either tracked or wheeled, are the same size (10tons) but are basically light to medium tanks.

Or, another option I've occasionally gone with, is swapping out an ATV or AFV for a Dirtmover. Same size (10tons) and basic shape and capabilities but instead of carrying people or sporting a weapon, it carries dirt and sports a forward bucket. Great for making quick improvised fortifications, landing fields, or demolishing enemy installations in sensitive surroundings (where ortillery would be too messy collateral damage wise ;) ). Or any of a hundred and one other utilitarian needs for Mercs on the ground.

And of course there are also Fighter modules available for the Cutter, but Fighters are not really terrain vehicles.

Hmmm, walkers, combat walkers...

No intentional hijack intended but the Landmaster is now available as a 1/35 scale model !
Nice:) Suddenly I wish I had the resorces & the time to build a 1/35th scale Broadsowrd to go with it. I'm just not that motivated though.:o
$125 is a bit steep for my wallet right now.I'll have to keep track of those links for when I get the $

HummmI got the spare bedroom I could build it in.HUMMMMMMMMmmm:smirk:

Which brought to mind some other literature that may have influenced this design: Robert A. Heinlein's 1956 juvenile Time for the Stars, in which the ships were described as looking pretty much like the Broadsword; bigger I think, however...

I seem to recall some close ups of the Aries. In the movie or a book of concept sketches. Those might help scale it better. It's hard to get a sense of scale from that pic but I seem to recall them not being very large.

EDIT: AHA! I didn't dream the model kit :)

http://www.starshipmodeler.com/2001/pre_cc_aries.htm

It lists a scale of 1:80 and 6" diameter, so about 40' diameter. Make it 12.2m diameter, about 70dtons (at 13.5m3 per dton) if I ran the numbers right.
