Engine start in 3... 2... 1...

Now on to docking with a Broadsword.

I think they are....look at the shadow line along the 'legs'. Though I have some trouble with that gold lens-flare (if that is what it is) being right near the engines...may cause confusion.

Else: breath taking

I think Andrew's point is the shadow should be darker. Black in fact unless there is some reflection happening. Like, off the solar mirror array out of frame that took the picture ;)

The lens flare is I suspect the drives of the Cutter firing up as it prepares to launch.

I have a small issue with the other Cutter being (apparently) under thrust while ejecting a module. But I like the idea of the scene showing the module being ejected. Though it might be a bit late to be thinking about swapping modules. They should have thought of that before approaching orbit :)

I did some test renders without indirect lighting. But then there is not much to see on the back of the ships because it's all black.

The module coming loose (and the Cutter being too close to the Cruiser while it happens) could be the start of something bad. Maybe a module crashing through (or trying to crash through) an entire arcology.

The yellow flare is just where the lens put it. Using a 50mm lens. That Cutter's engine is off.

Sorry if I'm getting it all wrong but the scale of the various objects seems off to me. The towers, their shadows and the clouds all look to me like what you'd see from 10,000 feet or so. The horizon line and atmosphere look like they are being viewed from maybe 60,000 feet but the star and background stars seem more appropriate to low orbit. (All figures are just guesses on my part).

Don't get me wrong I like it very much and am envious of the talent it takes to do something like that, it just seems "off" to me.

Everything is off on that last render. It borders closer to fantasy which gives it the wow factor compared to the other renders. It's all subjective now at this point if I post more renders. That's why art is never technically finished. It can go forever.

It's now time for me to create scenes using designs of my own instead of using copyrighted Traveller so I can make some money on the side.

The lighting feels odd (the rear of the ships should be in shadow).

I like the semi-lite back better. Deep shadow is bad. And ... who said that there was only one star in the system? The backlight could easily be from a second, third or second and third star.

I absolutely love the last render. I think it just captures the feel of Traveller, the AZhanti HL, the cutters swapping modules, the towers from a world in the 3i. I personally love it!

Congratulations!

Yep..the oddness of the atmosphere distances can be a sign of a smaller radii and there could very well be a moon or something back-lighting it. (I am against very black shadows in this case). OK, firing up the engine when changing modules is bad. But elsewise, Trav coolness...

Wonderful, Just gorgeous Shonner, I think I like the first version without the lens flare best, but all are beautiful.

I just thought of something while looking at these excellent renders. Could a merc ship activate thrusters in the boats to give it that extra speed to escape the missile or get to cover? It would probably damage integrity but could it happen?

An interesting thought, but, the CT Book 2 version would only make it equal to the next higher drive letter so it wouldn't grant any extra Gees. Book 5 would probably be even lower performance added. Negligible help at best. And I doubt the bays would be designed to properly withstand the load, even if you could somehow control it.

About all I'd allow would be as an emergency tactic for a totally maneuver drive crippled ship to use the two cutters as an emergency drive, at no more than 1/2 a Gee, and even then it wouldn't be easy or good for the overall setup (with stress damage to both the ship and the cutters very probably damaging them beyond reapair). But it might be enough to keep you from crashing into a planet and establishing an orbit to await rescue.

Roll on ship damage table from first book when you use it I guess? The hull or any of the plants could be damaged or the boat could crush itself and if you are so unlucky as to roll a crit the cutter could start a chain reaction and explode the ship.
