Changing UGM....ideas....

Here's a little chart I worked up to look at Base Qualifiers.

Stats across the top.

Difficulty code, Target number, and Base Qualifier on the left hand side.

The matrix shows the number needed (on 2D) to succeed at the task.

I see that there's not complete differentation among stats...which is a goal of UGM.

But, lowering the qualifier by the skill level will go a long way in making differentation among the various stat levels.

OK, I guess it's time to scrap this idea.

I've rolled out some rolls (the best way to test a system is to actually play it), and Sig said it...

...this is too complicated.

Too much time is spent figuring the modifier due from the qualfier.

I was excited about this idea, but this is a brainstorming thread for UGM right?

Throw ideas out there and see if they stick, right?

This one didn't stick.

I'm not even sure if the results are better than what UGM already provides, but the "official" UGM method of comparing the natural 2D roll to stat is quick and easy.

This method of figuring the qualifier just doesn't flow as well.

The good news is that, for every failure like this in trying to alter UGM, the failure re-inforces the fact that the "offical" UGM method is a superior method.

Quick. Easy. Gets the job done.

If I get another wild-hair idea, I'll post it.

But, ladies and gents, it looks like the score on this thread is:

Altered UGM: 0

Official UGM: 5

It's a shut-out for official UGM.
