The sword uses energy from the wielder and will kill anyone who doesn't have the right stuff in their blood. Nothing but a hilt until the right person wields it.

Early on my Laser Sword was based on the Laser Carbine. Same damage etc, with Sword range modifiers.

Came in at 1 TL above the LC and used a backpack. Higher TLs reduced the power supply size so that by TL 15 it fit into the handle of the weapon. I used "Shots" as well, figuring that it would use a charge every time it hit something. If dueling was involved with someone else with a Laser Sword, then you lost 1 charge per round, because when they came in contact with each other, even if a hit was not achieved, they sparked and crackled which bled off a charge from EACH weapon each round.

That'll be the Star of the Guardians (I think that was the name) series by Margaret Weis, of Dragonlance fame. Only those of the royal blood could wield it.

Jame: Psi Strength Points max at PSR, can be temporarily taken above with Drugs, and drop with use. Recovery is at some rate I don't recall and am too tired to look up.
