D20 Future Tech

Qstor2

SOC-13
I got today and just briefly flipping through it, it seemed pretty good and would be a good resource for DM's wanting to use D20 Modern for a Travller game. Thomas Jones posts being a fanastic starting point

A few things..p. 40 Stardrive is mentioned very similiar to Jump drive.

There's a few weapons from sci-fi/Traveller that were missing from D20 Future like gauss rifles that are given stats...

There's also a simple starship design rules system.

There's aslo rules for playing robot characters. Something I'm sure that's expanded on in the Game Mechanic's Future Compendium that's now available in print.

I can't help thinking that all of this stuff should have been in the original d20Future book.

Still, there is some nice stuff in it (quite a lot of it taken from Alternity in fact ;) ).

Not too crazy about starship design, or starship combat, but overall the book is excellent and very well presented. I now have Modern, Past, and Future and all pretty much rule.

For a broadbase overview of basic science fiction concepts its pretty badass as well! We could all take a page from this one!

Yes, they should, but it was a discussion long time ago. I'm glad that Rodney and JD were able to add more to the d20 Future series (also includes d20 Apocalypse and d20 Cyberscape).

One can hope they would eventually be added to the Future sections of the Modern System Reference Documents as OGC.

Am I the only person dissapointed with D20 Future Tech? I mean the ship design system is basically 'make it up' the tech is terrible, with outright clashes between what is scientifically known and what is simple bad science. The D20 Future Source Book had good standards and a consistent feel to it, D20 Future Tech is very poor in comparison, being full of 'handwavium'. I don't care if the science is hard or soft, but I do like consistency.

I am not sure if I was looking in the same new book a couple of days ago, but if so, I was very disappointed that there was no new cyberwear or new mechanics related to cyberwear.

Cyberwear in d20 Future is a mighty slim section of the rules and does not satisfy me at all. Especially the silly restriction on the number of systems allowed being based on the Con Modifier. So, unless you have hurculean stamina, you can't take cyberwear? What about little children receiving cybernetic prosthetics in Ghost in the Shell? Do those little kids with entire prosthetic bodies have a Con score in the upper 20s or 30s? I could cite numerous other examples where this makes no sense.

Personaly, I thought d20 Future was mighty slim for the subject it was covering.

Actually, I'd be surprised if there is only one.

You mean try to put Star Wars, Stargate, Andromeda, and Star Trek elements into one universal law of physics?

Ooh, good luck.

Anyhoo, what are the inconsistencies?

Have you tried d20 Cyberscape?
