Describe yourself as a result of Chargen

JAFARR

SOC-14 1K
For purposes of this discussion, feel free to improvise appropriate skills etc that may not quite fit Traveller terms. For example; I spent 8 years in the US Navy then worked 12 years in a US Naval shipyard. I am going to call that 5 terms with the last 3 as in the technical branch.

I will post myself at a later date due to work schedule, but thought I would give others a heads up to allow time to think about it in advance. (Mowing grass all morning gave me time to do some freelance thinking, but not to write it all down.)

Describe myself in terms of CT chargen?

No problem.
---------------------------------------

Used the Hard Survival Rule.

Failed Survival First Term.

My first reaction was, “What, are you nuts?”…’cuz this sort of thing has always worked badly when I’ve tried it. Too much ego involvement and so the stats get skewed mightly.

That caveat in place I will try to “roll me up”:

Male Human 47 currently a law enforcement officer (deputy actually) Solomani Rules! Death to the vegan Vilani!

ST-7 (failed an aging roll reflected by two auto accidents and a damaged knee from 20 years fencing)
DX- 14 (all those years of competitive fencing and practical shooting count for something, plus I tie a mean fly)
EN – 10 (that aging roll again causing 3 fused vertebrae and now pinched nerves in my neck requiring pounding in cadaver bone slivers to relieve the damaged disks – wheee! But offset by daily bike riding to work (10 miles each way) and lots of cardio to compensate for not fencing anymore)
IQ – 9 (Smarter than the average bear I like to think)
ED- 12 (BS (Biology with emphasis on genetics and evolutionary biology/Masters in Marine Biology…currently working on BS in history)
SS- 7 (?) My credit score’s not too bad, does that count?

It’ll look like something from Merchant Prince but here goes:

Handgun -4 (not Olympic quality but I teach combat shooting to recruits and compete in open class)
Combat Rifle – 4 (Same here with the M-4 and urban rifle competition)
SMG-2 (We use .40SW H&K MP5’s as patrol carbines unless you have your own M-4/AR)
Shotgun – 2 (Same, now re-equipped with rifled barrels and no longer beanbag shooters)
GL Launcher – 0 (40mm Beanbag shooter with revolver type magazine)
TASER (count for anything…proly not in any of my Trav games – we don’t need no stinkin less-lethal!)

Melee -2 (defensive combat as taught at the department and academy with regular refresher – Krav maga/ Kempo combination plus nasty electric knife zapper to teach how to avoid getting cut – or at least try not to.)

Foil – 4
Sabre - 3
Epee (Sword) – 2
(20 years of competing nationally w/ lots o’ trophies n’ ribbons until I blew out a knee twice has to count for something)

Robot Operations – 1 (Out robot at the agency plus I build and race R/C sailboats)
Groundcar – 3 (better than a civilian but t’aint Richard Petty)
Fixed Wing Aircraft – 1 (well over 30 hours flying over and under wing aircraft …no license, but it’s good to have a friend with a plane! Clear weather ok under VFR, but otherwise I’ll need GPS)
Mechanic-1 ( Ican change my oil and install a new carburetor – remember those? without any leftover parts)
Computer – 2 (I’ve been programming and using them since the days of COBOL and punchcards)
Streetwise – 3 (I’m a cop, I’d better have this or I’ll fail my next eval)
Legal – 3 (read above)
Admin – 2 (Reports, reports, reports……)
BBQ-5 (I defy you to quibble with this after tasting my smoked turkey or tri-tip!)

Age 18-22 went to College (Education +2)
Joined Imperial Navy at age 23. Technical Services Branch (Initial Training Ship Tactics -1 and Fleet Tactics -1)
Highlights
Age 24 sees Battle (Promote O2, Computer -1)
Age 26 Shore Duty (Carousing -1)
Age 27 Shore Duty (Promote O3, Liaison -1)
Age 28 Intel School (Streetwise -1, Interrogation -1)
Age 32 and 33 Special Duty -Cross Training (Promote O4, Liaison – 2, Gun Cbt – 1)
Age 36 Training (Vacc Suit -1) [not really...but some type of combat gear]
Age 39 Shore Duty (Admin – 1)
Age 42 Shore Duty (Vehicle -1)
This guy started out with all going well but then something happened. No promotions in last 10 years. Assignments have been less than impressive to the discerning eye of the “Big Navy.” Kept around for his intelligence and expertise, he knows it is only a matter of a short time until the service doesn’t need him anymore.

RPG me as well

UPP A7AAA8 (current)
Strength A - do a 250 pound bench press, go to gym daily
Dexterity 6 - probably about average or a bit less
Endurance A - run the occassional half marathon (been 10 years since my last marathon)
Intelligence A - basing on high school/county IQ scores (was higher, but I'm failing some aging throws!)
Education A - BS in computer science, MLA in liberal arts (want some fries with that?)
Social 8 - right around middle class, just a bit above average based on income

Code:
pre-service skills:
	wheeled 0 (drivers ed)

1st term (18-21) college
	gains computer 1
carousing 0 (I did not get out enough but I did get out!)
	education +1
2nd term (22-25) work as consultant
	computer +1
	wheeled +1 (add motorcycle skills)
3rd term (26-29) same job as a consultant
Probably lose my carousing skill but Traveller does not work that way, thank goodness!)
Endurance +1 from original stats - met my future wife who is a runner
Education +1 from working on masters
	Strength +1 - join gym
watercraft 0 - take up kayaking, although after 4+ years I never could get the Eskimo roll...
4th term (30-33) switch to telecommuting, same job essentially but from my basement.
	endurance +1 (marathon time)
	strength +1
education +1 actually finish my masters (Thesis - Artificial Intelligence and Ethical Considerations)
5th term (34-37) still in basement, no advancement
6th term (38-41) still in basement
fail aging roll, -1 endurance (gave up marathons as they take too long to train for!)
+1 fatherhood (that has to account for something - life event for Mongoose but this is CT)
7th term (42-45) still in basement
+1 computer - having to rewrite asp to ASP.NET & learn a bunch of stuff
+1 strength - started working really hard in the gym
-1 carousing - can we have negative skills? My time in the basement has not been good for a social life!

And that is now. Man - that is a sucky Traveller character to play.

Final skills:
computer 3, wheeled vehicle 1.

(now my wife, a captain in the fire department, has a fat notebook filled with her certifications,
commendations, awards and all that. Stats wise she would probably be:
Code:
88FAC8
strength 8 - she goes to the gym & plays a LOT of tennis
dexterity 8
endurance F - she has run 50 mile races.
Int A - smart cookie (but does not play games of any kind :( )
Education C - BS in biology, masters in exercise physiology, and too many
certifactions, classes and all that from 12+ years in the fire department
Social 8 - although she insists she's white trash...

as for skills, too many to list. She is using the advanced character development tables :)

Int: 14 for an IQ 150?

The smartest person in the world is a woman with an IQ of 228 (ish)
if you subtract 30% and divide by ten and round down (or just drop the last digit) you should have a closer Traveller equivalent,

My UPP so far based on this and the physical tests above
(I'll leave the last two out right now, until we can get a better test for those :p)

UPP:ACBC\\

Better than I thought lol,

My IQ is 140 (at least when last tested back in the early 80's)...maybe still is, I dunno after watching "G-Force" with my kids I felt my brain cells fizz away like the bubbles on top of a glass of 7Up....but using the above formula that puts me at 9.

That formula puts me at D (13) peak, and C current.

However, 1σ =2.44 on 2d6, probably should use 2.5 based upon the narrow 15+ odds for real population in traveller... with 15 points being 1σ, so

My best test ever was a 180+... but the administrating clinician rejected the results claiming I was test-wise; I've only taken the WISC 22 times, and the WAIS 5, and he used the WAIS, which I'd only taken twice before. I've relaibly scored 150 for years, and recently dropped (last test was 140).

My best test ever was a 180+

Same as me, the test topped out at 180+, (so you really have Int:C, as you have not proven it to be higher,)

But for the the IQ to INT ratio, remember that a score of 80 to 120 is average
IQ 120 = INT:8 (8 being the high average, low average being a 6, so this system works as is )

As you (presumably) come from a Garden, Hi-Pop world, you get Animals-0 and Streetwise-0 for free (in MGT anyway)!

A good job, as I seem to be embarrassingly underqualified compared to some of us! I'll give myself 557896.

Bravo! I think people tend to overrate themselves in these sorts of things. Fives and sixes and sevens are good, honest scores!!!
Of course, I'm 9A9BBD.

Dexterity - Juggling and knife throwing mean this isn't on the floor
Endurance - Cycling and Martial arts don't outweigh out of shape and smoking
Intelligence - Just cos
Education - Completed undergrad, partially completed another related undergrad degree, voracious reader
Social Standing - Professional income

No Brit worth their salt would ever dream of giving themselves above a 9 for anything... (which is the only reason I haven't, of course!)

Unless we have any aristos on here, in which case they would have to give themselves high SOC

Above average strength.

I have exceptional dexterity and ability to manipulate fine and small things can solder down to the microscopic scale and it looks like it was done by machine.

Endurance is low I have had breathing problems since childhood but usually not bad enough so it becomes a problem.

Intelligence is fairly high read a lot and can figure things out on my own well. Speak a few languages etc.

Education completed high school took a few college courses for self enlightenment but not for real credits.

Social Status well I make average pay would make me a 7 and my credit sucks but while I was in China I made a number of TV appearances in two advertisements and played guitar in a variety show. I am not a doctor but I play one on TV.

Air force 2 terms, 1 term drifter, 2 terms corporate, 1 term aviation, 1 term academic
