Describe yourself as a result of Chargen

Yeah. Everyone overstates things.

Well I just based my physical stats on the tests give in this thread

As for the mental stats, my Int score was based on my IQ test results,

But I've left out EDU and SOC, as the tests for those are a tad wonky to say the least,

a SOC score would be based on more than income in the UK,
its possible to be from aristocratic background (due to family) but have an average income,

can solder down to the microscopic scale and it looks like it was done by machine.
Are you better at soldering these small items now than the first time you tried? Did you have soldering skills before attempting the microscopic scale? How much of your ability is soldering skill vs dexterity?

Someone with good dex will have an advantage at most things requiring it compared to someone else with the same skill level.

How good were you at sports as a youth compared to the other youths? Throwing a pitch, shooting a free throw, kicking a field goal, running an obstacle course? I use as a youth because IMO, it would be more based on raw ability than when people get older and some gain more skill than others who may be interested in different things.

Using Mongoose skill tasks because it is what I have available. (Not trying to start a war about how skills are handled in different versions.)
Novice, level 0 and +1 dex = total DM of +1
Professional level 2 and +0 dex = total DM of +2

Not trying to say that you don't have the dexterity you claim, but, to me, your one example was more of an indicator of skill than dexterity.

AD9998 Psi 11

Strength. Measured out an 8 pound jug of water and held it for 2min 23sec. This is also an endurance test because I had the strength to hold it longer but did not have the willpower to endure the increasing burning in my muscles.

Dexterity. Ruler test 2, 2, and 2 1/2".

Endurance. Held breath for 1 min 36sec.

While probably not the very best test for the physical stats, these three tests can be accurately compared to others who take the test.

Intelligence. Some questions do not apply but I got #1, 4, and 5 right.

Education. College grad and +2 for other reading. This test does not include numerous other types of education, such as military and vocational schools.

Social Status. This test does not take into account any actual social skills. I'm a sloppy dresser, I don't speak eloquently, and I'm generally anti social.

Psionics. Yes, I got 11 out of 15. (first 10 in a row were correct!) I know what you are thinking but you are wrong.

Well you have your measurements I have mine. There are a number of other things too. It is like my friend who was a big fan of the Stones who said the measure of a guitar player is how many Stones songs you know.

I am a guitar player and have pretty good dex there also. I am not agile but have decent hand eye coordination. I gave a ten out of a possible 15 so it is not that far out.

Ok just did the end and edu calcs: ??7CCA

Soc was interesting... I have a relative who is a preacher, but I didn't count him. (My dad.) I've been on TV, I've received two national directory listings (neither charged me, and both sent me a copy for free; one was the Whos Who of Am. College Students), and I play traveller.

Hmmm, For SOC: does having the same geography teacher as Mick Jagger count? What about being listed in the credits of the up coming new Doctor Who Adventures RPG (playtester :p) or what about that both sides of my family has their own famliy crest?

I dunno, Where does it begin? where does it end?, is there an end?
the madness, THE MADNESS OF IT ALL!!!

OK, I just took that official test and ended up with a higher score in strength (why not whole body strength as opposed to just grip and upper arm?)
and endurance (holding one's breath? I was going off being able to run the ORPAT in under the required time at my age without projectile vomiting, or ride a bike 10 miles nonstop back and forth to work each day), same in dex, but now I dumber because I don't know what was being sold in the booth behind me and my ED isn't as high as I was translating it to be.

Ah, who cares, if the Big Ref In The Sky thinks I cheated he'll have me boarded by fusion gun armed Aslan in the first session and I just reroll a Scout. I like them better anyway.

If playtesting counts, add 2 to my effective soc.
Oh, wait, I've a C soc anyway... and the Paper from Strephon to prove it!

What about a cape and a sword? Can I have a higher Soc for that?

I have a couple of claymores (the cool baskethilt backsword jobs, not the those monster sassenach-killin' cow-rippers), my competition epees, sabres, and foils. Oh, oh, and an officer's katana (probably forged from the bumper of '30's Buick) my Greatuncle Jack brought back from the war!!! That ought to be worth a point or two if I throw a sheet over my shoulders?

Back the Envelope... CT/Supp4 Rules

Civil Servant (Fire-Rescue-EMS) 7889A8 Age 39 (In 4th term) Cr..Yes
Wheeled Vehicle-1, Medic-1, Jack of All Trades-1, Admin-1, Instructor-1, Computer-1, Leader-1

Psionics... I know what you are thinking but you are wrong.

Well that's a giveaway right there. You KNOW what I'm thinking!

Trying to fool me with the "but you are wrong" won't work here mate :smirk:

;)

EDIT: Oh very well, might as well, myself as me in Traveller:

675874 (Psi? Wouldn't you like to know ;) )

I'm not in my prime (failed aging throws on Str, Dex, and End), I'm not as smart as I used to think I was (or should that mean my Int actually goes up?), I've forgotten a lot of what I used to know (Edu can go down, use it or loose it), and I'm a man of means by no means, got all I need but don't need a lot. I scare myself sometimes in the Psi realm but don't believe it, it's just a nice fantasy.

My "career"...

Failed enlistment roll in Navy* at age 18 (not my fault... ), drafted into "Other" (we aren't all criminals!) and still there into my 8th Term (I keep rolling those 12's for mandatory reenlistment... ). Haven't failed a survival roll yet.

* Air-Force actually, figured for a shot at the space program at the time, hence Traveller "Navy"

Skills... tough one...

Jack-o-T for sure (covering a wide range of "talents", some might have been Skill-1 once), Vehicle-1: Wheeled, the standard Gun Cbt-0 (Because it's been awhile. Was a decent shot with rifles once upon a time, might have made marskman. More "lucky" than aimed skill with handguns, seemed more a knack or talent, hip shots, trick shots), Melee Cbt-0 (Some self training with knives way back, USMC book stuff, have handled swords but no training, same for sticks and such).

I like that...

Psi- ?? (But I can turn Traffic Lights green...?!) :smirk:

Ah, but only when using your mystical focus device?

You know, that Emergency Response Vehicle you drive sometimes ;)

Or is it more like my talent...

While taking classes one summer I spent some time driving the same route every day the same time taking my young cousins to swimming lessons, freaked them out the way I could make the lights turn green with a point of my finger just as I approached the intersections :D

They were well on the way to being convinced I had mystical talents before the summer was over. I think I fessed up near the end that it was a matter of my speed and the light timing circuit, and a little looking ahead a couple blocks for traffic.

No, to be aware of your lack of Int would be Wisdom, not Int,
alas Wisdom is a stat that belongs to another game.....

Maybe you should have taken the same IQ test we all seemed to have had,

You could have gotten 180+ too :)

That's the thing, no Wis in Traveller so I lump it into Int :)

Probably :) Used to score well on IQ tests, caused me no end of "not meeting potential" problems and led me to put such tests (or at least their usage in my experience) in the realm of pigeon holing hooie so I don't bother with them.

I was gonna do the whole "Traveller" stat thing too but just guessed my stats based on how I feel instead but I totally forgot about my own Baronial Patent ;)

I really wanna see more 7s around here....

Too many 9s, As Bs, Cs, Ds!

You have an E or F ... I should know about you on TV!

I suppose I ought to join in.

788A96 ---> 666887 (Damn ageing rolls! - "Ooh my back, my leg, hang on while I get my glasses, long time since I went to school, what did you say my name was?..." Darn it, I sound like a pensioner! :oo:)

Admin-1, JoT-1, Science-2, (on the verge of falling to 1 - as Admin rises, Science falls. :() Vehicle-2 (was 3, but been driving too sedately for last 2 decades to keep the 'edge').

No letters there. Not nowadays, anyway. :(
