AND Mongo boards/forums ARE full of wannabe writers most of the time. Say anything slightly oblique and you are stomped. Hardly consumer friendly and certainly not the way to promote Traveller. They appear ridiculously scared of of any real free critique of anything Mongo. Don't know why. Scared little cold fragile fluffy rabbits?

What there also seems to be there is people who seem to feel that not kow-towing to self indulgent criticism by entitled bombasts is the same as slavish fanboyism; the kind who appear ridiculously scared of any real free rebuttal to their self-inspired soapbox amplified cheap and easy rants. My only real complaint with the Mongoose boards is that fanboys can effectively squelch any criticism by acting like jerks and triggering a peremptory thread lock by overly sensitive moderators.

You'd think that the moderators would be bright enough to catch on to that trick, but apparently not.

Of course, the irony is that squelching criticism will ensure that the game is mediocre...

I am not trying to squelch criticism! Hell, I posted some myself!! I just want the stupid INSULTS to stop. And yes, I insulted Supplement Four...and quite intentionally. I have simply had enough. I think people can say what they like or don't like, but they don't have to resort to insults and personal attacks to do it.

WHY does this make me a fanboy who wants to squelch criticism?? I have NEVER said "don't say anything negative about Mongoose Traveller ever!" I did say that such criticism should not be brought up in threads NOT RELATED to critiquing the game. That is ALL I have said on that subject.

I personally have questions as why the mods allow perjorative insults like "fanboy" (a cute little Internet trick to...squelch criticism!) to go on here as often as they do.

And while criticism of Mongoose Traveller is not a personal attack on me, calling me a "fanatic" and a "fanboy" definitley is.

So much so that one of them resorted to sending a stealth e-mail to Marc Miller to LIE about some changes MJD wanted to make in the Spinward Marches book to fix long-standing known errors.

So WHO exactly treats this way too seriously? Ain't me. I'm in favor of chucking the WHOLE canon if it made the game better and the universe more consistent. I don't howl about new stuff being introduced that might "change canon". I live in 2008, not 1983.

Well, unless I misunderstand UK colloquialisms, it is meant to be an insulting colloquialism, or at the very least, belittling, right ? So, maybe, just maybe, the warning was for that fact, rather than your use of the word "rabbits".

But perhaps I overstate my response. Perhaps the admin is lupinophobic; in which case, my apologies to him, and please substitute some other non-lagomorph as necessary.

That said, perhaps you could actually link to, or at least give the title of the the threads in question ? The ones where you were mobbed by the MGP fanboys ? I keep hearing about those, but, gosh darn it, I don't see them.

If you have to resort to insults when trying to back your point you've already lost. And just because someone insults you doesn't mean you need to resort to their level in response. Strangely enough, I agree with this somewhat. Having seen a few threads be tantrumed out of existence, it is a bit wearing. But I have to say, they really don't seem to lock threads for criticism - just what they consider really bad behavior. WHICH, unfortunately, is coming to be relied on by some for squelching argument. And not just pro or con MGT arguments; just disagreement with the poster. I'm not sure why some people feel that they have a god given right to state their opions and have them taken as gospel, and not contradicted or discussed, but apparently some feel that open discussion is free of consequence.

And, while the locking is a problem, it really is about the same as destroying a thread, by the well known tactics of derailing, threadcrapping and general flameburying even in threads left unlocked. So, hard to know what to do.

You want to slag on Mongoose Traveller? That's fine. Slag away. Be prepared to back up your arguments, but the same goes for those who slag, say, Classic Traveller.

DO NOT, attack those who defend, and/or enjoy, Mongoose Traveller. That's against the rules. At the same time, to be fair, said defenders had better watch their language as well.

There is no need to descend to personal attacks. Remember, when all is said and done, this is just a game. Whatever works for you, that's cool. Whatever is fun for you is cool too. Other people may have different opinions , and that doesn't make them wrong. Just different.

One more thing, and if you want to take it as an insult, feel free. I have a 7-year-old child. And he knows to behave better than some on this board. I don't need to spell it out for him the way I have here. If I'm in a position where I feel a need to do this again, I'll simply start handing out suspensions.
