The problem was timing.
Experts say it should have been brought to market ten years earlier; and it looks like there's going to be a squeeze in the near future.
Point to point seems the current flavour, but if regulations or convenient ground transportation becomes available, it may go back to a hybrid hub and spoke, and then you may want to stuff as many passengers as possible into a hull for limited airport slots.
