Errata for books 1-3 Reprints

Or you need an updated Cutlass....

IMTU they're made of superdense metal with a monomolecular cutting edge to give the blade terrific armor penetration and incredible toughness, especially when wielded with the enhanced strength and (effectively) endless endurance of battledress.

Very useful in close-quarters combat in places where you don't want to be spraying gunfire around(or plasma bolts, for that matter), like the bridge or a weapons magazine.

Being allowed to keep your issue Cutlass when retiring from the Marines was a much-desired mustering-out benefit IMTU.

To my mind, it was just an RPGish way to give the high-seas feel. I mean, that's where we inherited the dubious institution of high space piracy!

One thing I'd surely have done is seen to it that every marine automatically got Battledress skill. (Note GT:Ground Forces had an excellent description of the type of training marines might well get and of the exams they'd need to pass... not having BD skill is just silly). In fact, the way CT and MT allow people to creep through the system without certain skill minima in some areas is about as far from reality as you can get.

Agreed about how some of the character generation is flawed in insuring compentency levels but let's not start the old flame war of all Marines have BD skill again

I was looking over and reading the GURPS Traveller book. I must say it makes good reading. Explains a lot of the Classic Traveller universe history with little side notes of background information relating to the Traveller game development.

It is cool. GT was my first real Traveller purchase. (2 years ago)

Two things that drove me crazy:

1) The Regina map is included with NO details. The system info and UWP explanations are... in another product. (The durn book assumes you already have CT... and a half dozen GURPS books!)

2) The gigantic Imperium map is included with NO substantial comment. What's been covered and when? Where do most campaigns take place? What should I buy so I can have a campaign setting? What's the best place for beginners to start?

3) It spoiled the whole Grandfather mystery before I even knew what it was. Grrr....

4) The trading and passenger rules are laughably simple.

Okay... that's four things.

I've spent a lot of money on books to help me solve the problems with GT, so I guess it worked. But you wouldn't believe the amount of detective work a noob has to do...!

Control of Missiles, possible explaination?

"Standard shipboard missiles are drones remotely piloted by their gunner. The missile can only maneuver if in sensor and communicator range of its launcher. "
Gurps Traveller

- Thought this was interesting since I have been thinking about the missile topics posted earlier in the thread.

Looks like the guy who wrote that threw his hands up and said, "faghedabowdhit!"

It certainly cuts back on the number of words spent on missile rules.... But it contradicts every other rules set for Traveller I've seen.

Oh Canonista, where art thou?

Are there any errata and/or suggested modifications for the Star System generation rules?

I'm not looking for something to add a gazillion details... just something to prevent idiotic results.

A few minor (and not-so-minor) issues:
- Characters age at the same rate in all TLs (Book 1), unless anagathics (sp?) are applied. This ignores the effects of general sanitation and medical technology on the aging process, which has increased life expectancy significantly between TL 6 and TL 7.
- Bullets but not magazines interchangable between SMGs and pistols (Book 1); IRL, an Uzi (atleast the "micro" variants) could accept a Glock magazine "as is", and I presume that in a highly standartlized, TL8+ environment, most 9mm weapons will use the same type of box magazine for ease of use and maintainance.
- Telescopic and Electronic sights being extra fragile (Book 1), a TL6/early TL7 issue, they should be hardened by late TL7 (as some are today)/early TL8.
- Carbines cannot mount bayonets (Book 1), which is strange since I recall SMGs (old Uzis) mounting them, and they were shorter than carbines.
- Mass tons are often confused with displacement tons, as in the ATV (Book 3) taking displacement tons equal to its mass to carry onboard a starship (Book 3).
- Computer rules; but for these there are enough threads discussing the issue.
