Errata - that difficult subject

oh why, in the same moment, do I have three postings?

I haven't posted it yet, mostly because it seems a bit... small of an update. They are clarifications, not really errata.

I haven't read your errata as I cut and pasted (well paper clipped) most GDW stuff into my books when the original errata came out, but do you do a concordance of were various rules all meet up - like combat rules between the Players and Imperial Encyc and Ref's Companion - part of the problem is the illogical spreads of info around the books.

I would agree that's the problem with MT; and it makes clarifications critical. But do I have such? No, and it might be easier to type in the text than build a concordance

I'd agree with that. BTW, the DTRPG scans have semi-decent OCR. You can only Cut and Paste 10 times per (I think it's a) week.

Takes patience, but you can extract it, usually 5 pages at a shot.

It looks awfully like the first printing to me.

Omniscan pro or read iris pulls out a pretty decent document with patience (with the ocr, not any drm restrictions).

I have an errata that I've not seen before. Just noticed this.

Players manual. Page 45. Top of left column.

"...and is immediately drafted into the Army for a short (three-year) term."

This is clearly not appropriate for the Merchant academy and appears to be a cut-and-paste error from of the previous Millitary Academy section on page 44. Since you can only get into the Merchant Academy once enlisted in the Merchants, this sentence should be changed to something like;

"...and continues with a short (three-year) term."

I can definitively state that the MT-CD-ROM pdf versions are the first editions. At least the DTRPG Players Manual is a later edition, as it has corrections in it. I haven't yet gone through to see if it has all the corrections. The DTRPG Referees Manual has some inking in it where someone has scribbled out some table columns, etc. So I suspect it may be a 1st edition scan. Thx Boarder Reaver ;)

Boarder Reaver, are you saying the above two programs will OCR a .pdf file, or are you talking about scanning a dead-tree version?

I tried the Acrobat OCR on my CD-ROM versions, but it coes completely belly-up with many tables and is unfixable.

OCR a pdf file or a scanned image.

Omnipage and ReadIris are considerably more accurate than Acrobat's own OCR. They handle the tables somewhat better but not perfectly. And it still gets screwed over by graphics.

Sigg: Not on this machine; I got the freebies, and can not update this machine to read them.

Ok, a new version of the errata is posted; this does NOT include any unofficial errata... the more I think about it, I want to be careful about that sort of thing.

Yes, MT marines cannot get battle dress easily -- and that's broken. But there are probably similar issues there, and I'd prefer to make a list and check it twice before polluting the errata.

So at the moment, the errata is still just errata. Addenda, that will be on hold for a little bit.

Don, thank you so much for consolidating all the errata for MT. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

A few things come to mind for the Addenda:

1. A question: What exactly are the combat effects of an antimatter missile? As I read the rules (2nd edition) they do surface damage like high explosives and radiation damage like nuclear missiles. This doesn’t seem right. If anyone knows the correct answer, I think it would be a good addition/clarification.

2. An addition: Referee’s Manual page 74 section 18 – Magazine Requirements has no listing for Sand Canisters.
What, am I the only sophont in the Imperium that thinks that using a sandcaster more than once in a battle might be a good thing? And where are you going to store the extra shots? Not in MY stateroom!
Looking back at LBB 2 I’ve come up with the following stats:

Type___Volume___Weight___Price___TL
Sand____0.1______0.05_____400____7

3. A correction to the corrections: Referee’s Manual again, page 78 section 26 – Pulse Laser Guns.
It appears that you used the 1988 errata for this table, but it does not agree with the 1990 errata or my 2nd Edition rules. Specifically, I believe that Auto Targets should be 3 instead of 2 (this agrees with a ROF of 80), and the Power requirements should be doubled in all cases. TL 13 ranges also need adjusting.

Well that is all I’ve got for now. Hope this helps.

Don, you're an imperial treasure to the Traveller community. Please report to your nearest Imperial Ministry of Conservation* Cultural Assets Valuation Department for immediate insurance assessment and secure storage.

Hmm... I was just about to post another update, but I want to review the 1990 pdf one more time.

Could you let us know what you update? Currently, I have to compare the current version with the last version to see what is new.

Thanks

Keeping them isn't the problem. I am in the process of retyping & expanding my manuals. The "Forbidden Cannon" cut so to speak.

Um... well, version 2.05 is now up. I've gone over the 1990 errata sheets one more time, and I appear to have just skipped a column :(

I've seen some online references to a "supposed" errata for advanced Marines generation, where any gain of Vacc Suit after the first can be taken as Battle Dress instead; however, that smacks of a house rule, and I cannot find that any official publication. If anyone does find it, please post here?

Finally, if someone has a copy of the DGP book "101 Vehicles", please send me a private message. My copy walked off a long time ago.

Don: TD15 has a number of minor tweaks to Marine CG. Have you cross-checked the Travellers Digests?
