FASA & GameLords CD-ROM

Aramis is right... and until Marc can reach Paul Sanders and settle things, the Cargonaut material goes into the untouchable stack. Which is very unfortunate... I hate seeing any Keith material linger.

I think I've tried all I could to locate Paul - sounds like unless he gets in contact off his own bat things will stay the same.

Has anyone tried putting up a post entitled "Paging Paul Sanders"? If he occasionally checks the web for self-references he might come across it

***Doh!***

Just saw the thread below this one that does that self said thing.

No leads on the unpublished FASA material; presumably the authors have the material.

IIRC, all the non-HP material(*) that FASA published (Skyraiders, Freedonia, etc) was set in the Far Frontiers sector (next to Foreven). The rimward half of Far Frontiers had been created internally ... and subsequently published in Dragon/Aries by the author/copyrightholder after FASA left the Traveller scene. I have this in dead tree format somewhere, I'll try and find it and get the author's name. But it might take a little while so if anyone else finds it first ...

* = Actually, after HP folded FASA put out another digest-sized magazine called Far Traveller. Ran for just 2 issues. Based on Dark Nebula sector which was subsequently taken up by Gamelords.

Dale Kemper. He was selling copies of his unpublished manuscript for a FASA Far Frontiers supplement on eBay for the last couple of years.

I bought one - it's (mostly) the same text/data as was published serially in Knight's The Traveller Chronicle a few years after the Aries print. (I've never seen the Aries issue, but apparently it left out significant portions).

I asked Dale for permission to digitize the data and include it on travellermap.com which was granted, so you can see it here: http://www.travellermap.com/?sector=Far+Frontiers&hex=1630 (Reminder that it is the rimward half only; the coreward half is by James Kundert a.k.a. GypsyComet, included by seperate permission). The borders and routes are per the manuscript, as well. You can also see a "LBB"-style HTML mockup: http://www.travellermap.com/sector.htm?sector=Far+Frontiers (since it's based on CT data, the PBG are all "100" or "101")

Mickazoid and I also cooperated on a karma-generating project to digitize the written portion of the manuscript, with a goal of handing back a PDF to Dale and/or Marc, who had apparently been in touch about potential digital distribution. However, I was distracted by other shiny things so the project stalled... but it's mostly complete. (It really just needs a J. Andrew Keith-style image for the cover, honestly. Has the copyright for those shifted to Marc?)

I can revivify that project if there's sufficient interest from Marc.

I bought that too on ebay awhile back. I had not seen it's original release before, but in my neck of the woods Traveller zines were scarce. Interesting stuff.

Contact me directly at don.mckinney@gmail.com, and I'll see if I can get his attention on this.

I got mine today. I'm running Windows XP. Did anyone else have problems running the install file?

Mike

Install issue

I am running 64 bit Vista. Mine works just fine. I do have issues with other programs and have been considering "downgrading" to XP so I appreciate the info.

Actually, after HP folded FASA put out another digest-sized magazine called Far Traveller. Ran for just 2 issues. Based on Dark Nebula sector which was subsequently taken up by Gamelords.

Figured I'd better add a few details... What really happened is that the relationship between FASA and HPG fell apart. What had originally been an agreement for FASA to print and distribute HP for HPG had been changed, as someone at FASA thought they could edit the material as well. So HPG exercised their option to pull out, and they owned High Passage, not FASA.

The Old Expanses were not licensed to FASA, they were licensed to HPG ("High Passage Group").

Don, did you ever think of writing the History of the Traveller Game...after T5 gets put out of course. I know Rob Kuntz is doing something for TSR and James Malisinski (sp) over at Grognardia is always looking to interview some of the old timers.

You mean, reveal where all the bodies are?

Remember, there's a lot of disagreements about things... and I actually dropped Traveller during the TNE years. I tried to walk away from the game.

I was actually about to sell everything on eBay when I got the call that GDW was closing. That, plus the Dork Tower issue on the end of GDW... "Travailler! Like it ever had a chance!" So, I got back in to Traveller.

But details about who did what with whom, and when, would be interesting. (Like John Harshman and the GDW receptionist... yes, they are still married after all these years...)

I'll think about it.

Never bothered with it.

I just copy all the files into a folder on my hard drive and use each
pdf as I need it.

BTW - if you're interested I've got a handy pdf from Adobe which
shows how to specify Opening Parameters for documents so you
can make shortcuts to files that open to a certain page with a
certain magnification, etc.

No, we would not want you to reveal the locations of the bodies unless you wanted to.:D

But, surely, it is time to reveal that Marc is in reality Jimmy Hoffa living on the run....and Darlene is a super-spy from the FSB...so, yes, fans have the right to know all that type of stuff.

I merely suggest that there is a growing volume of tales of the early days of RPGs coming from ex-TSR employees and it would be sad to have some of this oral history lost. For as much as RPGs is intertwined with the history of D&D. There are other stories including the stories twist around Traveller.

LKW should also contribute. James is a really nice guy, if you have never met him.
