Vargr Sub-species (Ethnicities)
I voted Vargr, being that I’ve studied them since the 1990s, but also because of their species variance over the years in each publication:
Aekhu of Deneb - Aek meaning ‘black’ in Gvegh, Aekhu and Gvegh-Aek, this integrated subspecies found membership and a home inside the Third Imperium after the Vargr Campaigns.
Akumgeda of Ksinanirz - culturally psionic, distinctive spotted pelts, ostracized from Lair in the First Diaspora, this ethnicity sits on the coreward frontier of the Vargr Extents.
Gvegh of Gvurrdon et al - with their proximity to the Zhodani Consulate, the Gvegh have the highest access to psionics while remaining culturally non-psionic. They are the most commonly seen ethnicity in canon publications and stories. Gvegh in Gvegh language means ‘tawny’.
Irilitok of Amdukan et al - the “cutesy pie” ethnicity and the most fully integrated and compatible sub-species of Vargr with Humaniti, found in the Julian Protectorate and bordering Meshan, Antares and into Empty Quarter they are successful in coming up from rock bottom.
Kokasha of Trenchans - diminishing as they are also diminutive, the brilliant minds of the Kokasha are dwindling from the Vargr Extents and Vargr Enclaves thanks to the hatred of the Gashikans.
Logaksu of Provence et al - the merchant princes of the Vargr and insulation about Lair, this ethnicity should be the signature sub-species most known by Humaniti; their mastery of trade routes and avoiding Corsair Bases tops all others.
Nakagun of Listanaya - culturally psionic but slightly weaker than the Akumgeda, this ostracized ethnicity also took to exile on the coreward frontier and has yet to reverse course even after re-Contact with the Logaksu and Urzaeng.
Ovaghoun of Meshan et al - valued for their leadership, aggressive practices, contact and valuing Vilani traditions and worldview, this ethnicity has been spat upon by the Suedzuk even as one of their own, Archduke Brzk ascended to greatness inside the Third Imperium.
Roth Thokken of Angfutsag - born blind and automatically psionic, this strange, mystical, fetishistic, occult sub-species was rediscovered long after their own ostracism from Lair during the First Diaspora by the marginalized Suedzuk well after the Sack of Gashikan.
Suedzuk of the Vargr Enclaves - the Red Pelts, Red Vargr, and Blood Vargr; infamous for their ethnicity’s involvement in the Sack of Gashikan, the Suedzuk have been pushed to the edge of Charted Space by Humaniti, Ovaghoun, up and coming Irilitok and their own paranoia and insular families and Packs.
Urzaeng of Gzaekfueg et al - the largest, strongest, bulkiest ethnicity of Vargr balanced by their tail-end mental acumen who are also the most territorial and aggressive ethnicity of Vargr; will not double-occupy and does not tolerate weakeness or illness; long time foes of the Gashikans. Ironic that they hold both a TL-16 world and a TL-18 world in Gzaekfueg and Kharrthon Sectors...
With this wide, salad bar variety enveloped in one Major “Alien” Race, there is plenty to latch onto. The fact that they are closest to Humaniti thanks to the Ancients is another pro to playing them.
