Fighter Sizing

Alas! We are effectively talking the same language, albiet from opposite directions.

Ok, then. It's all good...

As I said, I'm affraid is a case of doctrine thinking, I guess even when those fighters exist there will be different doctrines argueing this or similar quiestions, and all sould be able to guive sound reasons for their thinking (as I'm affraid has always happened).

The word "Fighter" is often used to denote a multi-role aircraft, as a ground attack aircraft is often called an Attack Aircraft and then there are Interceptors or Air Superiority Aircraft for CAP and interdiction of air space duty. It would carry over to spacecraft as the terminology is role specific, so that many space fighters are fighter-bombers, to keep them dual role.

I found a way to make a fighter that can absorb factor-9 bay weapon strikes in a fleet combat.

They say fighters only make sense at TL 8-12, but you can make a specialty fighter at TL15 that can stand in the line of battle and be effective.

It's a 99 ton rock.

High Guard p34, Small Craft.
No planetoid configurations allowed for small craft.

You can use the same strategy for 100ton+ craft though. They have been coined Super Fighters when in the 100 to 500 ton range range, are carried into battle and generally have maximum computer, agility and armour.
