I'm currently working on a translation of Classic Traveller in the French language, with MWM's approval.
I plan to release the rulebook in mid-2007, based on the Traveller Book + Library Data + CotI, and I've got some more books in preparation (eg "Contact", the Alien book).

Mostly, I plan to use art from the original books, but I also plan to hire some French artists (and do a few things myself, like maps and things like that).

I just read your description of the project. Quite impressing! If you only add Mercenary weapons I would be willing to retire my Traveller Book for your translation.

We may translate a part of that "Ironmongery" chapter from book 4, especially the personal weapons (Gauss Pistol ...) but it will depend on the room we'll have left in the book.

Pas facile de traduire les termes propres à Traveller... Le bagage de termes de science-fiction "prêt-à-porter" n'est pas aussi étendu, et en plus le Français ne possède pas cette propriété des langues germaniques de créer facilement des néologismes en concaténant plusieurs mots.

C'est quand même drôle de penser que j'aurais du mal à traduire en Français mes propres articles pour JTAS...

By the way, what is the procedure for getting lisence for translating Traveller and for publishing it? I daydream about translating it to Hebrew (for some of my fellow Israeli RPGers who don't know English as well as I do), but I don't know if it will have enough of a market. I can do the translation itself (I can send any interested party several samples of my work, both political and scientific in nature, or an attempt to translate a chaper from LBB1); I'm just no businessman.
