halcyon class crusier!!!!!!!!!

hello everyone,
this is my first post on COTI so plz bare along. ;)
ok, now if you look up this great ships for deck plans, schematics anything good like that you will most likely find nothing (even on this site!). so i have decided to make my own and i will post the plans as soon as im done with them. but there is a problem i have almost nooooooo clue on how to do the math and stuff i have a PDF of the classic Traveller rules but they are little help, also is NASA (a friend suggested that). so i hope some of you guys will help me out? but before i get to far i better tell you about this ship it us apart of the game halo uses a slipspace drive(later thread on how works) and uses nuclear (fusion) propulsion, anyway launched before the war about 11 of these babies had there frame modified into honeycomb like clusters making this being able to fight with 90% loss of armor and breaches to all compartments. so if you could help me i would be great full to all of you i would like to have this done in classic to the current game.

thanks,
The Last Browncoat (TLB)

teaser

here is the pic in zip file!
sorry the top was cut off in scanning and pic isn't high quality when i get the final out i will try to edit it to make it look better.
ok so this is the mass driver deck contains small reactor-25, direct fuel feed-slashed lines, two hardened specialized computers- 23 and 24, a... compasitor i think (a battery that stores the charge before firing)- 22, the driver itself-19A, four linear accelerator (charged particals hit mass heating it up)- 20 and more! ;)
well hope you like it cause i did it the old-fashion way with paper and pencil.
oh and if you know any good free ship making programs i would be grateful if you told me!

Hey! I take a break from XBL and find a fellow Seventh Columnist! Welcome aboard! :D

I kicked around some thoughts on Halo CT (CT = Classic Traveller*), don't think I ever posted them though, may have to dig through some boxes to find the notes.

I think Traveller is eminently suitable and adaptable to doing Halo, with some clever interpretation and expansion. So much so I've long wanted to do up Halo RPG rules using it. But with little prospect of a) getting to play an actual game using it; or b) being able to share it due to IP Rights issues, it's a very back burner project...

...I'm up for tossing ideas though, now and then.

* not sure how up on the local acronyms you might be ;)

cool

i like that! like HCT (Halo Classic Traveller). could you post those ideas on this form so i can check them out? though i have a few projects going on right now i think i can squeeze in some time for this! well I'll see if i can talk to Microsoft... or is it bungee that owns halo? to see if i can get permission for a free version to go out on this site maybe or something! also sorry im new to traveller and RPGs like this whats Seventh Columnist :o . man this does sound good! :)

thanks,

My bad lastbrowncoat3 :) I presumed too much, no worries ;)

I haven't tracked down any notes yet. Not that I'd gotten far. What I recall is a rough work out of the slipspace drives*, some specs for most of the vehicles and weapons, and some rough career work ups for the Marines and Navy, with some notes about the Spartan armor.

I'd also started working up the Pillar of Autumn, ship design specs and deckplans, and what a nightmare that was, trying to find reasonable figures for the size, fitting in the features...

...of course all this was circa Halo 2 and the first three novels.

Anyway, it's late, and I'm not sure when I'll find the notes, or if given what's passed since that simply starting fresh wouldn't be easier.

EDIT: Oh, right, the other bit. I think MS owns the Halo brand now. Has for a while, since they first brought Bungie on board if I understand the relationship correctly. Bungie has since left to pursue other interests (World Domination ya know, that giant slingshot isn't going to build itself... ) with only a hand in running the Live Halo servers and such. I don't think there's a chance in seven hells of getting any official sanctioning without wads of cash or a lot of weight in the gaming biz backing any plans to make a marketable Halo RPG. There's been a few fan attempts over the years that seemed to kind of fizzle.

* though Halo: Reach kinda wrecked a lot of my assumptions on that when they showed how tiny the slipspace drive is from a cruiser (the size of a small car engine?!), and how little power it needs to engage (a flipping Pelican can power it up?!), and apparently it needs no fuel either (they may know how to make games but man they have no real clue on so much else... )

halo

hello far-trader:D,

well i do know alot about halo but i have never herd of the Seventh Columnist before this (i read almost all the books, but only played first halo :(). PLZ tell me when you find those that would be PRICELESS for this project :). did you check out my pic of the ship I'm working on? also can you check out my slipspace drive also thx man. anyway this drive I'm thinking of calling it the Bungie drive... in honor of the games makers? THAT'S MESSED UP! no way a drive is that small it at least has to be 100 tons! (because of high powered partial accelerators the ones at CERN i think are two miles! also the power to rip space apart? at least 100s of megawatts (it is supposed to take a 10 light-year long by our current physics about ripping space, from 'physics of the impossible" by michio kaku (good book!). the fuel...? well if you look at my drive (from what i figured so far only a medium sized amount is needed 1st to power drive some more to keep black holes open... will figure that later. but still i guess 1 jump with this baby will be at least... 5% i think (a guess) but still alot sense this can only fit on ships about larger then i think oh 1000 tons maybe less. well if you find that paper work plz tell me thx again.

P.S. um you know that code that helps other travellers tell what you believe could you or someone help me with that if they have time thx

thx

thx major b,
i get that but i don't get some of the things like the LBB?
and i found in my travelles (hahaha...) a rule set similar to these i get some of it but the rest over my head can you help an ANT (A New Traveller) out?

EDIT: i am also going to make (much later i think) a star base or... a base that will be IN a gas giant under the surface will have a internal dock for up to 600 ton ships and also have jump drive maneuver too so base can move from star to star, and while in giant can suck up all the fuel it needs :). guns to, overall when i do get to this it will be awesome :D.

LBB = "Little Black Books"...

CT = Classic Traveller (published by GDW/GW)
MT = Mega Traveller (Published by GDW/Hobby Japan)
TNE = Traveller: The New Era (GDW)
T4 = Marc Miller's Traveller (by Imperium Games) AKA Traveller 4th Edition
GT = GURPS Traveller (SJG)
GTIW = GURPS Traveller Interstellar Wars (SJG)
GTFT = GURPS Traveller Free Trader (SJG) which is a supplement to GT
MGT = Traveller (Mongoose) aka Mongoose Traveller aka Rikki-tikki Traveller

thx

thanks aramis,

i guess i better start to work on that but one of the main things is:o... well i dont really know the races that well (not at all almost) i know some names aslan (lion people), oh... (horse dudes), the imperium (tec advanced guys), is there a Terra(earth) federation thing or republic?, and a few others. but i have no clue for them, who is bad who is good (i know this is an option thing) but i know ZIP, nada, nothing. so can you help me out, like i believe that "jump missiles" are possible but there is a problem like lets say cant get to go over jump 2 and also that can't be less than 10 tons or so.

EDIT: a thought just popped in my head, does anyone know where there is a good free traveller library out there that i can copy (that's true plz). (not the book like i found a website [forgot name] that had all the info cant say if was all right though, the problem it would take hours to copy all that cause its on hundreds of web pages :()

LBC,

The Traveller Wiki would be a good place to start.

http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Traveller_Wiki

As to "jump missiles" - I think they were only a feature in Classic Traveller and were then retconned away later. I'm sure someone will correct me if that is wrong though I do remember reading about heated debates on the subject in the past.

I believe all versions of Traveller since only allow jump drives on hulls of 100 tons or larger. That doesn't mean you can't have them in Your Traveller Universe (YTU) but I doubt you will find references to then in game publications.
