Here are the core rules for the "Solis People of the Sun" setting, just a few twists on the great Cepheus Engine rules by Jason "Flynn" Kemp. 🎃
 
Also I'll add that thanks everyone that made it a silver best seller. A friend was looking through it the other day and they said they really liked the art, which is stock (no AI), except it took some time looking through the galleries to find decent work.
 
Someone called me and asked for me to teach them chargen, easy enough, though they said they hated the -1 penalty for switching careers, thoughts? I started thinking about it, and it does make me question why.

I wouldn’t do a -1, but harsher. - Terms, because I want middling termed characters. The one and outs have a good chance at something to be better rounded, but there won’t be powered up old ones.
 
In the rules I recommend characters only have 3-4 terms, and have them roll a d6. They talked about being honest, and it's true, we just create the characters we want to play. Harsher just feels like it's trying to stop rules lawyering, character optimization, etc. They had never played Traveller, and I had to say, it doesn't have the D&D play loop of level grinding. If one wants to make a character on "God Mode" go for it, at least to see, that is a learning experience on their own. Why not do it always? Because then it doesn't feel honest.
 
I admit, I always struggle with the "more than one career" idea. My father, brother-in-law, and two friends all served in the military for a time, then left and started a second career and it did not feel odd. One of my most favorite advisors was a salesman and then went back to school and became a professor at the university.

I always begin to chock on the idea when it is clearly designed to min-max and power game the process. So, as a GM, I always applied a negative to rolls based on what made sense vs power gamer actions. Maybe unrealistic, but it is what I did. 😁
