2300AD: Inoculation for visitors to Earth?

We read about stringent OQC, especially in the Core Worlds, but in my brief perusal and word-search I didn't find anything about pre-landing treatments for human visitors from other worlds coming to Earth for the first time. I think there would have to be whole cocktail of vaccinations and inoculations for such people, as they may have never been exposed to some of the many Earth viruses, bacteria, mycoplasms, etc that have evolved here to prey on humans. Coming back to the homeworld might be very dangerous for a human who has never been here before!

IMTU, the visiting of any region of known space includes a update of any available innoculations. These are managed by the medic, but are essentially transparent to any major race or common minor race, as they are included into life support, including the "breakfast" rations given to low passengers. It is possible for one by-passing such systems (stowing away, with own rations, possibly?) to have a problem, just like one can drink bad water in a major modern city by by-passing the systems of clean water in place, but a spacefarer would no more do that than the average 21st Century Terran from New York City would drink from the gutter. Therefore, it is as transparent to game play as the fact that David Letterman found clean water on Friday; now if we dropped Mr. Letterman in a Panamanian swamp with just his coffee cup, then clean water would be crucial....:smirk:

Good point SpaceBadger. I guess OQC works in both sides, and similar installations are in most human colonies along settled space.

Taking as example today's RW vaccination policies for travellers, we can expect to be two classes of vaccines, those mandatry, due to the possibility to spread the disease, and those just recommended for the traveller's safety.

Colonial Atrlas (page 39) specifies strict quarantine measures are taken in Dunkelheim for the horses to aovid equine disease to infect those in the planet. It's quite logical to think that similar measures are taken for humans...

I agree with samuelvss that vaccination should be one of the duties of the medical staff in any passenger ship (I also defended it for Traveller).

In any case, I envision many of today's diseases (mostly virical ones) to have been erradicated by 2300. After all, right now we have with smallpox and nearly so with polio, and it seems measels or chickenpox will be next WHO target. Bacterial diseases would be quite more difficult, as there are more reservoirs, but also by 2300 we could expect most of them (at least terrestrial ones, with known methabolism) to have effective treatment.
