I have to admit never really liking ANY chargen in ANY game so much that I left it "as is". I have always worked/bent/broken the chargen so that a well-imagined character can be produced. (If your character isn't well-imagined, though, you may as well roll randomly.)

If that means psi during chargen, then so be it. (i.e., one of my favorite characters from college years, based on some of the characters from Dinosaur Planet/DP Survivors by McCaffrey.)

That said...

1. Slaughtering people/monsters is not a good way to "advance". (There being no Exp pts.) Playing the game well is.
2. If you can plausibly back it with science, I'm game for cool toys, etc.
3. An autodoc cannot resurrect you.
4. Therefore, Murphy's laws of combat apply - always.
5. There are very few places to run on a highport...

CT is best summed up in the old GDW logo which went something like this:

"Come play, the universe is your playground."

Although, I prefer the old advert for TNE in Challenge which showed the siloutte of characters in a cinematic scene and stated:

"The only thing missing from this picture is: YOU!"

We must have some advertizing types or would be advertizing individuals...perhaps, we can run a contest for a T20 advert? Anyone interested?

</font>[/QUOTE]Robert is right. I was NOT attempting to quote AC Clark.
Please don't make assumptions like that. It insults all three of us (You, Me, AC Clark).

And the difinition I use is derived from the definition of fantasy used in my English Lit class 15 years ago.

Magic exists in most RPG's, especially SciFi ones... at least from a literary standpoint.

Psionics are clearly a form of magic.

We know how Meson Guns work in the OTU... and we know that that is not possible under current phsyics; mesons don't behave that way. Hence, IFM. (IFM=It's F'ing Magic!)

There was an article in one of the Travellers' Digests (#15?) which was a brief 'Intro to Traveller' that the DGP folks used as a handout at cons -- it gives a brief overview of the philosophy of the game, the OTU setting, the Universal Task Profile, and the UPP, all in 2 pages. I typed this up and expanded/adjusted it a bit and use it for my own games.

I probably should do something like that for my Traveller T20 Con games. Thanks for the reminder.

Enjoy,
Flynn

Oh I dunno about that....marines, xenomorphs, full auto firefights complete with chaos and mayham, shotguns "for close encounters" and a weasly guy from the mega-corp trying to screw everyone five ways to Tuesday - sounds pretty Traveller to me ;)

Alien is a horror film in a sci-fi setting - also very Traveller

^ Guess your right but IMHO, Alien always seemed to appeal more to the Traveller ideal than Aliens because it was less about combat and more about the mystery and characters (ordinary merchant joes trying to get home after a long time away).
