(I can't remember who came up with this collorary to Clarke's Law, unfortunately).

Clearly both are Traveller movies -- Alien uses Books 1-3 only, while Aliens adds Book 4: Mercenary ;)

And of course don't forget "The Chamax Plague" (part 1 of Double Adventure 5), which bears a more than passing resemblance to Alien (whereas part 2, "Horde," seems more derived from Carl Stephenson's story "Leiningen vs. the Ants"...).

FWIW, here's a draft of what I'll be using when the time comes.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Excellent reason. But it might put off the chicks in the group.

Somewhere it was pointed out that, while there is no prime directive, you only trade stuff within 4 TL's of local if they aren't TL 8+... no making wizards by using gauss guns and holoprojectors.

ISTR it was in Grand Census or WBH.

Or, are you just trying to get people to look up words in the online dictionaries?

I figured the displacement in time was the important bit & saw no need to bring "anachronists" into the picture. Just me playing amateur linguist. When the dictionary backed me up & said it really was a word, I went with it.
