Leif Ericson Scoutship

Just curious if any sort of depository has been considered to 'preserve' and make ready reference available to such detailed information ?
I fear that Robert Lee Merrill considers that information the property of his company. I just worked from scans of his poster.

One other thought is if such specs were used to do a 3D model for CADS or other like program, a fabricator could really produce something incredible.
Indeed it would. But I know that turning a 3D mesh into one suitable for rapid prototyping is a long an arduous task. It has to be "water-tight", the faceting must be within the tolerances of the prototyper, it has to have a set skin (you cannot merge two meshes and expect them to work). For instance, in my Leif mesh, the engine cowls are separate arc-shaped boxes that overlap the body. The renderer creates the cut-off where they intersect. A rapid prototyping mesh cannot do this. The cowls have to grow out of the skin of the body.

Well deck plans will need 2 D images. Suppose its worth picking up the poster. Shame I'd prefer an adobe image or screen saver.

However, the figures listed on the poster he sort of just made up.
I'd go with 5K myself.
That had occurred to me but wanted your input based on the research you've clearly put into it. Thanks.

A little size comparison:

sweet!

Nice Andrew. Any way to do it without a $3-4k software package?
Is there a reason you choose an Imperium design comparison?
So you think we can get 50 scouts into 1 LE?

Winchell,
Will give it a shot.

Nice job of comparing sizes, there, Andrew....

I'm trying to figure out her armament. As I recall, there wasn't much shown on the model, except for that "spinal laser" add-on.

I've never seen the poster. Does it (or any other source) have anything on armaments?

I'm surprised it's not there already.

I ran across the starship size comparison site myself the other day.

As Far As I Can Tell, there's no Traveller ships at all. All movies, TV, and books.

It would be nice if someone with some Art Skills (which excludes myself) could whip up the standard canon player ships, with a few of the larger classes (AHL).

I'm sure the site would add them as a category if someone could put it together.

:hint:

The poster says:
# Weapons

* standard 2 Type 3 Heavy Lasers, 57 MIM13 Goblin missiles
* additional 1 MkIIa Phaser, 18 SIS23 Wasp missiles

but that is totally from Mr. Merrill's imagination. Just stick in a weapons loadout similar to other Traveller warships of her tonnage, and you should be fine.

Hmmmm... I like to at least try to stick close to the sources, if possible.

Two "Heavy Lasers" might be 50 ton laser bay weapons (from my house rules here). 57 missiles, divided by 3 missiles per turret, gives us 19 missile turrets. Adding in the "spinal laser" as a big bay weapon (maybe a 500 ton bay?) gives us the use of 49 of the 50 potential hardpoints, assuming a 5000 dton hull. If she's a smaller ship IYTU, just change the "laser bays" to regular laser turrets (and the "spinal laser" to a 50 ton plasma/fusion bay?) and you need only 32 hardpoints.

That might work....

on the right track

Oz, your have some good points. I was aiming for a 500 pulse laser in the design. But yours seems to double EP. Seems that all other spinal mounts reduce it compared to tonnage (in T20).

You know, I swear there is (or was) a fan site with corrected scaled profiles of common Traveller ships done in nice full graphics that would suit. But I can't find it, I've scanned my bookmarks, I've googled all my fu, nothing.

Maybe someone else knows what I'm talking about and recalls it :(

I do believe this is the schematic you refer to, far-trader !
