looking for a pbp game

My Classic Traveller (more ProtoTraveller, actually) is always open ...

Since I want to play Classic Traveller and, darn it, I just can't seem to get anyone else to play around here ... I am just going to play with myself. :oo:
[I don't think that came out the way that I intended.] :nonono:

On a serious note, I have been playing a fair bit of PbP lately and remembering just how much fun it can be. :D
On another board, I came across a blog of a solo AD&D Adventure created from all of the random tables in the DMG and Judges Guild products.
Inspired, I want to play Classic Traveller and am willing to be both Player and Referee if that is what it takes to have some CT fun around here.

If you know me, then you know that I like to try things that are a little different.
So, this will NOT be a typical Free Trader Merchant crew adventure.
The rules used will be based on The Traveller Book (or LBB 1-3), so no advanced chargen and no skill bloat.

This topic is an open invitation for anyone who wants to play in a Classic Traveller PbP game.
Just post below or PM me and you are in.

There is no deadline to join, new players are always welcome.

[Until someone else signs up, I intend to forge ahead using "Travelling Alone" by Dave Cooper]

thanks, I might. trying to read through some of the threads but am having trouble figuring out 1) how many players are involved and 2) what their present status is. do you maintain a perpetual post that keeps track of this?

1. Two active (samuelvss & Leitz) plus one dealing with real life (Spinward Scout).

2. Doc (samuelvss) is attempting to cure Scout Pilot Robert (NPC) of a head injury caused during the ship crash that caused him to forget the mission. Marco (Leitz) and Jozu (Spinward Scout) are attempting to raid a government prison and organize a coup.

The beginning of day 6 has a summary of day 1 to day 5, but I was too busy to summarize day 6 at the start of day 7.

Lots of good information in the threads, you'll be reading for a while. Here's a summary.

The game is set 300 years +/- from the Third Imperium, and is CT. Our original mission was to "do something" to prepare for a Star Confederation invasion on a world that is semi-allied with an enemy political entity. Robert the Scout was the only one who knew what the target was.

Having been shot down, we have split the group. Doc has taken Robert to a hospital to try and recover his memory. Doc managed to find himself a hottie along the way.

Jozu is a Psion/Merchant played by Spinward Scout. Currently having been jumped by "real life", Jozu is with Marco, my character. Marco is a Marine and has been deeply emotionally affected by the abject poverty and struggle on the world. He knows how bloody an invasion will be, so he's trying to instigate a political upheaval so a new government will ask for Star Confederation assistance instead of letting a lot of people die.

Bringing in a new chacter is easy, though all of the PCs are just starting their second "term". What types of character would you be interested in?

not interested in looting or random purposeless killing. does that fit with this game? after all, the key when joining an existing game is fitting in.

If you might want to play the scout, Robert

that has got to be a first, starting with a mentally-compromised character. "you wake up somewhere, you don't know where or why or what is going on." ok, I'll read through the posts and say yes or no tomorrow or maybe friday.

Well, I appreciate your desire to fit the existing game. I have seen several where new players wanted to make a splash instead of keep things going. Never really cared for teh splashy bits, unless the rest of the group wanted it. Let's see where things stand.

Doc shot up some people that were about to shoot up others. He subsequently "adopted" the kids who were then orphans. It's complicated.

Marco killed a serial killer, killed some beasts to feed hundreds of starving people, shot and then recruited a spy, and shot a subordinate who was pointing a weapon at one of the unit leaders. The latter two didn't die; one is with the team and the other is off in the wilderness.

All in all the characters are weapons competent, and they use them. So far we have played the consequences of the attack and both characters seem to be on the "good guy" side of the story. In fact, I'm not even seeing the risk of "slipping into the dark side" sort of stuff going on. Both characters take their actions seriously and seem more interested in relationships than body count.

Marco is leading a military raid right about now. It will get bloody. The risk is high. The reward is moving the planet one step closer to salvation, so Marco feels the risk is worth taking.

If you play the scout it will be interesting, as you're coming in and trying to catch up on everything. If you play someone else, a local or a member of a different team who joins the group, you'll have more and different knowledge. It sort of depends on what you want to do.

With the current game plans and pace we will have helped a new government take over and begin the process of fixing a lot of broken stuff. People may live that would otherwise die. Yet the road won't be easy, and there will be all sorts of challenges for all sorts of people. Really, if your character is willing to step up there's a practically limitless number of opportunities.

I forget who originally came up with the quote (it wasn't me), but the reality is that my PbP is more of a "Big Darn Hero" type of campaign.

You are well equipped, in a really bad place:
... at a minimum, trying to survive.
... at best, trying to make a difference.

I didn't want another 'struggling free trader' campaign.
Other people had good 'Nobles and Admirals' campaigns.
So I was aiming for "James Bond meets The Guns of Navarone" ... you have been dropped behind enemy lines before D-Day with a secret mission.

It is a sandbox game in that there is no 'set' adventure.
There are multiple streams of events that will roll along with you or without you.
There are LOTS of random rolls to see what will happen in the world around you.
There are lots of people that you can meet and interact with.
You have the ability to influence these streams of events and can interact/pursue them or ignore/avoid them ... the choice is yours.
You are not in charge of the big picture (like a Duke or Admiral), but you are at a tipping point in history with the resources to nudge things along a path of your choosing.

Marco (Leitz) has chosen to set his sights high and is attempting to organize a local revolution to change the government from within and avoid a war/invasion.
Scout Robert (actually more like a 'spy' than a traditional '3I Scout') knows that he has some vital military target to destroy before Day 30 ... but can't remember what it is (Doc is attempting to fix that and has an appointment in about an hour to attempt to restore Robert's memory).

To an extent, YOU will drive the plot ... what you decide is important, is important ... what you ignore is just background.

As stated before, just about any character can be worked into this game ... just answer this question: Why are you on an unstable world on the brink of both economic collapse and civil war?
