Looking foward to T5

Perseus

SOC-10
I'm a CT man, though I have enjoyed both MT and T20 to a lesser extent, but the more I think about it I find myself looking fwd to T5. Why? I hear you say. Simply because, as has been said on these forums, Find a version that suits you as a base and then add the best bits of the others ideas to your game. What! I hear you say? Bear with me a moment.

Let me postulate an example. I'm looking forward to Sophonts in T% because I would like to see characters not unlike Rommie in Andromeda. If you can imagine Intelligent AI's with shipboard (and other location) avatars. Hmm...That sounds like a half decent idea for a new century Game. To see it work well...well I think that is entirely possible, as long as you except that tweaking the rules occasionally is OK.

So. I'm looking forward to T5. I want to see the chance of intellgent ships or avatars. why not? What are the chances then that you can bring more things into your game through the addition of new material. I think we all should look at it and welcome the chance to broaden our horizons, rather than seeing it as a complication. If you don't like some bits, don't use 'em. But hey, bring on the bits that really stand out!

Roll on T5!

I'm looking forward to... well I'm hoping I can use most of it. Its expansion of and compatability with CT themes holds my interest.

As one of the former playtesters (mainly with T5's CharGen routines) I like what I see, so far.

I have fused my T5 playtesting stuff with MT. It seems to work ok, for now. I am waiting for my CD-ROM so I can decide how much more to add.....

MT is a great resource to mine for T5 concepts, too, since it extended and consolidated existing Traveller material so well.

What I see of Mongoose is not making me feel good.

GURPS the setting was pretty good, if the rules themselves are tough. Too bad things are not going well there.

I hope T5 will be good, but Mark cranked out some real garbage the last time he tried a new version.

If you are referring to T4, you must know:

MWM had very little to do with it, at the beginning - even though his name was in the title (Marc Miller's Traveller).

He saw what IG did with the rules (and his name) and tried to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, it was a day late and a credit short to salvage the system.

T5 has a LOT better potential to be a decent product. The task resolution system is pretty solid (the removal of the 1/2 die and the addition of the "This Is Hard!" routine sold it for me), and the chargen is pretty comprehensive (I really like the fact that your character can have a decent "college" career, from undergrad to doctorate), and the being creation rules allow a more colorful universe.

It looks like it might be shipping at the end of this month. I, like everyone else, is waiting for the day.....
