Merchant Auxillary

great another ship to add to my Traveller To do List....although it seems to be a seriously up sized Merc Cruiser.

Hmmm, the idea for something like that was first proposed back in 1982, shortly after the Falklands Islands War between the UK and Argentina. Interesting that they are finally doing something with it.

One thing lacking in Traveller is the support ships that the Imperial Navy must have to operate, along with the support staff and costs of maintaining all of the naval bases, building yards, and ships.

An organization as wide spread and mobile as the Fleet would need a pretty sizable support infrastructure. the sort of vessels your talking about would be as numerous as warships...probably more numerous. they aren't very se as star ships go but there is a need for supply and repair ships to move into forward areas and provide support to the Fleet as it moves to counter possible threats.

The need for support vessels for marines would be even greater. Marine forces have to be very mobile and light on their feet. Keeping them supplied with beans and bullets alone would take a sizable force of specially constructed vessels.

Seems thats a niche crying out for attention :D
