Meson Cannon.

Alright gents, I just posted my design for a meson cannon in the art gallery.

It's for a 950 ton Fleet Escort. But when I plug the numbers into HGS, I get an invalid design. AS I have explained before when I design ships, If it fits into a hull, then it can be apart of the ship. I made the cannon extra large and even added a fusion generator to power it. Is it because it is under a thousand tons or is there a mimium hull size for Meson and Particle Acellerators?
 
Meson spinals are a minimum of 1000t. Your meson cannon could be a bay weapon, which still requires a minimum ship size of 1000t.
 
It depends on which version of the rules you are using. Some of the rule sets, a ship must be at least 1000 tons to have a bay weapon, but in others, a ship below 1000 tons can have a bay weapon.

Traveller 20 (T20) had an optional rule saying some previous edititions of Traveller has allowed bays to be squeezed onto craft smaller than 1000 tons, and so a ship could be designed that way as well. Mongoose Traveller core rules allow a bay to be put on any size ship where it can fit, with no limit to the number of bays (though each bay does take up a hardpoint), while Mongoose High Guard does put a limit on the maximum number of bays a ship can, but all ships can mount at least 1.
 
The OP's use of HGS implies CT HG2 construction rules. But yes, other rules editions may suit him better.
 
This is the first time I have incorporated a large ship cannon like the Meson Cannon in one of my designs. My real question should have been can you fit a Meson or Particle Accelerator into a ship of 1000t or lower. But that has been answered, I'm busy to day with the 4th of July, so hopefully I'll post the design during the week...
 
A while back (I think I even posted here somewhere) I did a CT HG design for a 6G J4 ship with a meson gun bay. Only way I could meet the power requirements was to add additional jump capacitors and have the weapon capable of firing every other turn only.
 
It might except CT HG doesn't extend above TL 15. (Other systems do, but not CT HG.)

But you could exstrapalate from those there.

i.e. PP % = 0.5 per PN
Hull armour = 0.5+a for TL16 and TL17
Menson U : T=6000, C=800, EP=1300
Computer 10 = 200, 15, 50/120

Keep the other weapons the same and Bob's your Uncle.

Looks like a bigger hull is required. Having the big meson weapon at your disposal will be very nice when trouble shows up. I just hope my group does not get this idea as I don't want a arms race popping up in my campaign. :)

I like the way you can do that so easily with HG. That's why I prefer formulae over haphazard tables. The HG tables are obviously formula-based. Works for the top secret J7 Imperial courier ships, too...
