10 ton work Pod
Built for a wide variety of tasks the work pod is a space going multi-tool. Equipped with a cluster of manipulator arms, tool mounts, light rigs, and a powerful laser lance/drill it can make repairs handle cargo, rescue stranded spacers, slice open derelict hulls, or bore into asteroids with equal efficiency. Its only drawback is that it is not as capable as a pod built for those specific tasks. It is the true "jack or all trades master of none".

Often beat up, in need of spare parts, with an interior that smells like a gym locker the work pod is the favorite tool of any seasoned blue collar spacer. Rugged reliable and versatile it has no equal when it comes to all around usefulness. A good spacehand can maneuver the pod into the tightest spaces, rip open mangled hulls, or cook breakfast using nothing but the manipulators and laser drill. Insult a mans "banged, smelly old junk heap" and he might put a boot to your backside.

Capable of moving with a 30 ton cargo module in tow, or with several pods working together towing a crippled ship into dock. The pod is powered by compact powerful gravitic drives that give it impressive acceleration when not hauling any cargo. Its hull is lightly armored to protect from collisions and shielded from radiation, and intense heat.

Armor: Crytaliron Alloy

Free tank of gas and first oil change, LOL

That's what ya call customer service:D

of course, it also gets them into the service bay where the techs can spot all those things that need repairs...but shhhh that's a trade secret.

I am aware, I used to work for a car dealership

Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep (ahem, workpod)/Oldsmobile/Buick/Cadillac dealership.

Then a Mitsubishi/Suzuki (car) dealership

Parts/Service guy.

Dodge Chrysler Ford Toyota...sales...But I tell ya what some of the guys back in the service bay missed their calling. They could upsale better than the guys on the sales floor...

I haven't' got any hard feelings for most of the guys I worked with good guys just trying to make an honest living...

but the truly insidious most vile, and treacherous souls seem to gravitate back to the finance department....some of those guys are avatars of the great thing that should not be named <runs and makes sure the wards on his doors and windows are intact>

Finance guys really are in partnership with that guy.

The reason Service guys are good at upselling is that our pay is based on the revenue we generate and upselling really boosts that revenue.

One thing about service work. You can't hide from bad work. so they have to be good salesmen and good at their jobs.

My best sales manager said that a good salesman finds that balance between the best deal for the dealership and the best deal for the buyer. If you don't find the sweet spot you either lose customers or loose income.

Sort of like anything. even drawing up a space ship. If you don't please the customer you don't get them to come back.

Ship function reminds me of the classic Willy Ley space taxi, assembled a model of this when I was a kid.

Oh yeah, I remember those :D

I admit the idea is one I've seen in a lot of forms. The Space jeep, the pods from 2001, and the work submersibles from the Abyss., and the Work Bees from Startrek.

It's just one of those ideas, that is so basic and practical you sort of have to assume sooner or later someone will build one.
