more new Doctor Who?

I've gotten to "The Dead Planet" the first part of the Daleks. Interesting I didn't know the Daleks had been introduced so soon. I don't know what I think of Hartnell, Tom Baker has always been the face of the Doctor for me, Hartnell's Doctor seems less trustworthy.

The Daleks also mark the point where they decided to change the series from a quasi 'science education' program into pure sci-fi. The original concept is why the two teachers came along for the ride in UC.

On a side note the two major recurring villian races (Daleks and Cybermen) were introduced during the Hartnell era. Every TV Doctor except Eccleston (Doctor 9) has fought both. Eccleston never met the Cybers, though to be technical Pertwee (Doctor 3) met the Cybers in The Five Doctors, not in his original series.

Which brings me to the subject of favorite Doctors.

Tom Baker is #1, and Jon Pertwee is #2. Hartnell is #3... but only because I haven't seem more than 3 episodes with any other Doctor... I have only seen 3-4 with Patrick Troughton and Peter Davison, and never warmed to either. PD's portrayal basically resulted in my not following the series at all once he took over.

I've seen only one with David Tennant, and none of those I haven't named.

Got caught up in the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who when visiting my parents. They have some uber-cable setup and I was able to watch BBC America. Got into watching a marathon of Matt Smith as the Doctor. I really like him although I've noticed some prejudice against him.

I'm currently downloading episodes of the 3rd Doctor (Pertwee). I also found copies of the FASA Doctor Who rpg. Only done a brief look over, I noticed it uses action points for melee. I am wondering if it was influenced by Snapshot.

I wasn't keen on him and River Song (Alexis ?), he seemed a bit young to me
to be having a relationship with her, but I was impressed with the standard with his other companions.

Really really glad they got Tom Baker back as well for the cameo at the end.

David

Yes that was fun with Tom Baker as the curator, you could tell he was having fun and slipped in some improve compliments to Matt. I tried to watch some of Pertwee's old episodes of the 3rd Doctor but they were just too slow compared to contemporary episodes.

The movie that BBC America showed the night before "An Adventure In Time And Space" about the original making of Doctor Who, was pretty awesome too.

Especially the bit at the end when the actor playing William Hartnell was saying goodbye to the show.

Yes I really enjoyed that on BBC America as well. I was surprised to learn the first producer was a woman, who would have thought for an early Sci-Fi show. I had seen the actress who played Verity Lambert in one of the Matt Smith Doctor episodes.

Not so surprising. Look at who owned Desilu studios for Star Trek back then.

As a side note if you look up alternatehistory dot org there is an alternate history thread called "That Crazy Redhead" where they suggest how Desilu might have gone on to produce Doctor Who and done a full five seasons of Star Trek along with crossovers with Kirk and Pertwee. Fanciful and fun...

It was extremely well done. The fanboy in me wishes they'd refilm some of the lost episodes like Marco Polo with that cast.

(I could have done without the Matt Smith cameo, though. He's a great Doctor, but his inclusion instantly removes the timelessness)

Matt Smith's (silent) appearance was a crowning touch for me. It was a warming thought, that Mr. Hartnell could have seen just how his work was enjoyed by millions of people all these years later.

I can see how you'd feel that way, though.

Ditto on that cast; would love to see them re-do any episodes with that brilliant cast.

Ditto.

And I'd also like to see the whole Hartnell era remade. Three 12-episode seasons would do ... one new episode per story except The Daleks, Marco Polo, The Dalek Invasion Of Earth, and The Chase (which would be 2-parters), and The Dalek's Master Plan (which would be a triple). This would allow for a 2-part prequel to An Unearthly Child. (Not that I've been giving this much thought...)
