Musings about Starship/Spacecraft design...

Let me start on a positive note - while I have yet to read all of T20, what I have read is wonderful...an excellent piece of work.

Of course, its human nature to dwell on the bad rather than the good
Actually, bad is too strong of a word...more of a...concern.

I like _a lot_ the notion of the new computer rules for ships...the "base" computer coupled with commo, sensor, and avionic modules. But I don't like how its been implented or how its being used in designs.

Consider the scout/courier. Because it has a Model/1bis, it is limited to Close sensors and Close commo - even allowing for a downgrading of the electronics when the ship musters out...this seems a bit limiting.

The next problem is in the computer design of Small Craft - some of these vessels have Model/3 or 4 computers with the corresponding sensors and commos! Not only does this mean that a Ship's Boat or Pinnace is a better scout than a Scout/Courier...it also means that the Pinnace is more expensive! Why does the Pinnace have a Model/4 computer?

I would recommend:
a) Redesigning the small craft and lowering their respective computer power.
b) allowing the sensors/commos to be larger than the base computer, say by one or two levels. Thus, a scout/courier could have Model/1bis computer but Model/3 sensors and commos. If you assume that the model number reprsents the hardware of the item (bigger radios, sharper telescopes) Idon't see what the problem would be...

Just a thought...
